Job Description

  • (Internal Title: Construction Management V):
    • The Construction Director will work closely with Senior Directors to lead a Construction Management Division within the client organization. The Division will lead on construction oversight of over 50 live rail projects across the GTA
    • The Construction Director will drive a culture of health, safety and wellbeing excellence and lead transformation of best-practice construction delivery. They will be required to proactively engage with Delivery Directors and Vice Presidents to review work plans, and work with the teams to develop resolutions that are best for program
    • Provide strategic leadership and technical construction leadership across a multi-billion-dollar rail portfolio
    • Further develops the design and operating model of the Construction Management Office to enable it to effectively oversee the projects construction activities
    • Ensuring that the construction-aspects of the program are technically sound, evidence-based, and consistent with client and stakeholders’ priorities, requirements and expectations
    • Providing oversight of all activities, outputs, and outcomes related to construction management and administration
    • Provides a broad range of high quality and reliable construction expertise in a proactive manner, through advice, direction, and direct leadership with the project teams on the management of issues and considerations that are likely to influence definition and achievement of the program scope and objectives
    • Organizes, directs and manages field representation at all major work sites and remote production facilities
    • Identify any opportunities to help develop the Project Delivery Teams delivery experience, through coaching and mentoring of the on-site teams
    • Help to develop the Constructors & PDT’s approach to proactive Health and Safety
    • Manages creation of a secure online daily field logs including photo documentation addressing daily progress, significant events and milestones, safety
    • Supports the development of mitigation and/or incentives to reduce risks associated with the utility and construction interfaces
    • Supports and develop the safety culture of the team and ensure core values are met

Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 18 years of experience in Construction Services in area of specialty
    • Significant experience leading and providing direction to Construction & Project Delivery teams on high-profile and high value projects
    • Experienced (15+ years) Construction Director in the rail sector i.e., Stations, Track, Bridges, Overhead Catenary Systems, Signalling and Communications
    • Experience leading large, multi-disciplinary teams
    • Detailed understanding of construction methodology, innovative methods of delivery, technology, planning, delivery, site logistics
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Engineering or Construction Management field
  • Licenses OR Certifications:
    • Holding recognized certification in the applicable area of specialty
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • The ability to lead, engage, motivate, and coach others. To act as a role model and inspire and empower others. Competent to mentor and coach at levels within delivery partners and the wider client organization
    • Leading negotiations with third parties
    • Create and deliver persuasive and engaging presentations to wide range of audiences in our industry

    • Seasoned in construction-related software applicable to area of specialty

    • Expert ability to detect and capitalize on others' strengths
    • Demonstrated capability to supervise, delegate, and develop capacity

    • Demonstrated functional acumen to support how solutions will address client goals while maintaining alignment with industry best practices
    • Proven site leadership capability for multi-resource teams with seasoned experience building and motivating team members to meet project goals, adhering to their responsibilities and project milestones
    • Capability to understand interdependencies between technology, operations, and business needs
    • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office
    • Inclined to maintain professional development to keep abreast of emerging technologies, methods, and best practices
    • Ability to arrange priorities and escalate competing risks to meet deadlines with minimum input from leadership
    • Keen eye for detail and adept problem-solving abilities with a track record for meeting deadlines
    • Must have demonstrated experience relaying and receiving information (written and verbal) in a demanding multi-disciplinary project environment
    • Expert ability to work collaboratively and independently on creative and analytical tasks in a structured, disciplined, technology-driven environment
