About the role
Please note: This is a temporary 4 month opportunity with the potential for extension. This position has a hybrid work arrangement. At minimum, this means 1 day on-site a week. Please note that this is subject to change due to business priorities.

As ATB’s next Business Analyst Student, you will play a significant role in helping deliver pivotal insights for ATB Business Banking as part of the Advisory Strategic Insights & Analytics team. In partnership with stakeholders in other insights teams, finance, data, and advisory professionals, you will conduct data analysis and research, identify avenues for business performance improvement, identify market opportunities, prepare recommendations, and expand our understanding of how we can better support Albertans. Your recommendations and perspectives will be key in advancing our role in making “it” possible for Albertans, their businesses, and their communities. This role will have opportunities to be cross-functional, performing in-depth business analysis with partners using a variety of tools to drive the insights needed to make optimal decisions by senior stakeholders.
Accountabilities
- Analyze and interpret data and KPIs to identify actionable insights that drive business performance.
- Perform data analysis using advanced analytics and data tools such as Tableau, SQL, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Present findings and insights-driven opportunities to sales leadership and their respective teams.
- Leverage partnerships across Advisory Services, Client Experience & Technology to develop creative, implementable solutions.
- Execute with reliability, ensuring timely delivery of reports/analysis and proactive communication regarding potential barriers.
- Uphold data integrity by cross-referencing and verifying insights to ensure consistently expert-quality, error-free deliverables.
- Cultivate a growth mindset by applying academic knowledge to real-world problems while actively seeking feedback and mentorship.
- Support and work collaboratively with other members of the Strategic Insights & Analytics team.
Skills, experience & requirements
- Education: Working towards or recently completed a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or diploma at a Canadian post-secondary institution with a focus in Computer Science, Business Administration, Economics, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics or a similar quantitative field
- Analytical Excellence: Strong skills in spreadsheets (e.g., Excel, Google Sheets) with a proven ability to derive meaningful insights from raw data.
- Data Visualization: Experience or training in Tableau or other visualization tools like Looker to build meaningful, visually appealing dashboards.
- Technical Proficiency: Ability to write SQL within the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment.
- Self-Management: Personal accountability to manage competing priorities and a commitment to incorporating feedback into future deliverables.
- Data Storytelling: Proficiency in crafting audience-specific narratives that translate complex insights into simple, actionable takeaways.
- Problem Solving: Ability to dissect complex problems with curiosity and propose innovative, data-backed solutions.
- Humble Confidence: A high drive for results balanced with the humility to ask for help, maintaining a constant focus on "Client Obsession."
- Assets: Proficiency in Python or R, or exposure to Machine Learning and Data Science concepts, are considered strong assets.
