About the role
This position has a hybrid work arrangement. On average, this means 2-3 days on-site per week. Please note that this is subject to change due to business priorities.
As ATB’s next Director, Internal Assurance for the Enterprise Focus Center, you are more than an auditor: you are a high-impact strategic partner and trusted advisor. You will help steer Internal Assurance’s (IA) vision through dynamic risk assessments, audit planning and overseeing the engagement execution. As the architect of risk-based engagements that address a changing risk landscape and align with ATB’s strategy.
Leading a specialized team with a blend of expertise in Finance, Treasury, Market Risk, Operational Risk, and Regulatory Compliance, you will support translating complex assurance and advisory requirements into actionable engagement criteria and relevant results.

Accountabilities
Strategic Advisory and Effective Partnership
Serve as a high-value advisor by engaging with curiosity, providing meaningful insights and being responsive to stakeholder needs.
Provide "strategic challenge" to business leaders, acting as a trusted governance, risk and compliance partner as part of planned and ad-hoc advisory requests.
Empower ‘OneATB’ by collaborating with peers, stakeholders and cross-functional lines of defense to harmonize assurance activities and foster alignment.
Delivery and Technical Excellence
Contribute to dynamic risk assessments and strategic insights by continuously monitoring regulatory changes, economic trends and emerging risk to recommend the right engagements at the right time and deliver high value insights.
Oversee engagements demonstrating proficiency in the assurance and advisory lifecycle including, planning, end to end execution and reporting to support the delivery of high quality and timely engagements.
Architect assurance approaches and define risk based engagements for technical and non-technical domains including Regulatory, Operational, Liquidity, Capital Management, and Financial Risk Management.
Ensure a standard of quality in engagement deliverables, including board-level reporting, through clear oversight, thought-partnership and execution.
Data-Driven Innovation
Leading transition to continuous data-driven assurance by empowering teams to leverage data and insights to meaningfully shape the engagement execution and anticipate emerging needs.
Drive innovation by supporting the continuous improvement of assurance and advisory techniques, including methodology enhancements, data analytics and AI-augmented execution.
Leadership and Talent Development
Manage a diverse function of generalists and specialists, focusing team energy on high-value efforts that address material risks and strategic priorities.
Develop a strengths based team, adjusting leadership approaches to suit diverse capabilities and creating growth opportunities.
Skills, experience & requirements
Knowledge & Capabilities
First or second line of defense experience: experience designing and implementing risk management programs in domains such as Operational, Liquidity, Capital Management and/or Financial Risk Management (trading book and banking book)..
Financial risk sophistication: demonstrated knowledge of Liquidity Risk, Capital Management, and Financial Risk Management to provide technical leadership within the IA practice.
Familiarity with Trading Book risk management (limit frameworks, model integrity, valuation adjustments, market data and trade lifecycle governance and controls).
Familiarity with Banking Book requirements, including liquidity measures (LCR, NSFR) and IRRBB metrics (NII, EVE, and sensitivities).
Banking experience and regulatory knowledge: 5+ years of financial services experience with a strong understanding of applicable regulatory requirements, including capital and liquidity adequacy frameworks.
Build high-performing, motivated teams by nurturing talent development, modeling leadership behavior and coaching.
Assurance techniques: experience with common assurance techniques, including root cause analysis, agile auditing and risk and control assessments
Qualifications & Designations
To reflect the technical sophistication and advisor lens of this role, we look for a combination of core audit and specialized financial designations:
Required: Post-secondary degree required; a graduate degree (Finance, Business or related field) is highly preferred.
Required: Active core professional designation such as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA). Equivalent designations (e.g., ACCA, CISA) may be considered.
Highly Desirable/ Specialized: Recognized specialized certifications such as Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Professional Risk Manager (PRM) or equivalent.
