About the Role
As ATB’s next Managing Director - Structuring and Execution, you will lead and develop a team of ATB Capital Market Credit structuring and underwriting professionals while delivering on key business objectives. Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Portfolio Management, you will oversee and be responsible for the quality of the ATB Cormark Capital Markets credit portfolio while coaching team members with your vast credit experience and knowledge.
You have a passion for credit, with strong attention to detail, and are intimately familiar with industry and market fundamentals that will help you deliver on an elevated client experience. Operating at a high level of efficiency you will monitor and deploy the appropriate resources in order to meet or exceed expected timelines, while collaborating with other ATB partners.

- Developing Directors, Structuring and Execution
- Developing ATB Cormark Capital Markets Associate Directors
- Financial:
- Contribute to the overall financial targets of ATB Cormark Capital Markets, by enabling credit solutions to achieve business results.
- Work closely with the origination and sales team to ensure proper structure and alternative solutions to credit products. Proactively identifying, together with your team, cross sell opportunities within each client and the portfolio overall.
- Guiding the team on structuring and supporting credit product business opportunities that are maximizing capital efficiency.
- Mitigate risks related to loan loss provisions by ensuring adequate attention and focus on risk oversight of the portfolio.
- Prudent expense management of your team (FTE and overall teammate related expenses)
- Support ATB Cormark Capital Markets leadership and Directors on executing on fiscal year targets and objectives.
- Client:
- Overseeing the credit underwriting process in capital markets ensuring timely delivery and support of ATB Cormark Capital Markets Clients. Reviewing and supporting transactions along the underwriting process.
- Ensuring Directors, Structuring and Execution, deliver at all levels of customer contact in relation to credit product ownership. Collaboration with Sales Directors and other Senior Sales Leaders to jointly support presentation of the credit when required.
- Endorse and foster the development of the Advisory Journey and ATB’s Path to 2030. Identifying opportunities to engage other ATB partners when possible.
- Keeping the Client at the center of all activities (related to the credit product) resulting in acceptable overall Customer Satisfaction Scores.
- Maintaining key internal partner relationships (specifically Sales, Credit and other ATB Cormark Capital Markets partners) with an aim to deliver high quality and timely/prioritized reviews of credit applications.
- Ensuring proper utilization and recording of client interactions (call reports) via CRM platform by Directors, Credit Structuring and Execution.
Accountabilities
- People:
- Maintain employee satisfaction and engagement as measured by ATB internal surveys and use of recognition programs, events and daily oversight.
- Sourcing of Directors, Structuring and Execution and Associate Directors (with assistance from People and Culture) and collaborating with ATB Cormark Capital Markets partners.
- Ensuring people “pipelines” remain current and evolving with an intent to minimize disruption to the business.
- Overseeing the development of Associate Directors (with collaboration of Portfolio Management Directors in ATB Business Banking) under the ATB Cormark Capital Markets umbrella with AOE specific training and exposure.
- Oversight of team support levels and vacation / leave coverage within the capital markets space.
- Compliance and Risk:
- Review and support new business/money requests and material amendments presented by Directors, Structuring and Execution. Providing support with submissions to Credit and/or Capital Committee (or higher when required).
- Maintaining effective communication between Credit, Risk and Sales on all credit related issues as well as key projects and initiatives.
- Be the first contact with Risk Management when negotiating credit related structures and loans.
- Attend credit and risk committee to sponsor and support recommendations through the risk process
- Ensure adequate oversight and adherence of credit processes and ATB credit risk policies. Becoming a subject matter expert and providing recommendations and feedback when necessary to the appropriate partners.
- Compliance reports: expiries, reporting and loan control / business loan review and any other control related reports.
- Ensuring completion of required reporting for capital markets (Corporate Health Assessments, Expiry Management and other operating reports).
- Oversight and enforcement of monitoring and control procedures in the capital markets team.
- Observing and enforcing regulatory requirements and necessary firewall procedures.
- Other:
- Participate in work groups relating to key initiatives / projects.
- Set strategic priorities for the team that align with Portfolio Management and ATB Cormark Capital Markets objectives.
- Aligning with ATB Business Banking Portfolio Management Directors on strategy, best practices and delivery (in relation to Associate Director roles and items that impact both ATB Cormark Capital Markets and ATB Business Banking).
- Leading the deployment and ensuring the use of key tools and resources into the team.
Skills, Experience & Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in a Corporate Banking / Capital Markets environment and/or similar
- 5+ years of experience in Senior Debt and/or Structured Debt solutions
- Experience in Credit Adjudication on large commercial / corporate level transactions
- Experience in leading or coaching a team of professionals
- Strong understanding of credit and security documentation
- Strong financial and risk analysis skills with good understanding of accounting standards and financial modeling
- MBA / CFA / CPA / CBV are considered an asset
