About the role

This position has a hybrid work arrangement. On average, this means 1 day on-site per week. Please note that this is subject to change due to business priorities.

As ATB’s Managing Director of Strategic Planning & Financial Intelligence, you are a key driver of the bank’s forward-looking financial narrative. Reporting to the AVP of Financial Planning, Investments & Insights, you will lead a multidisciplinary "Intelligence Hub" comprising FP&A, Data Science, and Finance Data Management. You will bridge the gap between complex data engineering and executive strategy, providing the senior leadership (SLT) team with predictive analysis and recommendations that drive financial optimization and enterprise growth.

This role requires a rare blend of high-level financial acumen and technical maturity, acting as a critical advisory link between Corporate Finance, Treasury, and business units to ensure ATB’s long-term financial performance is achieved within a robust risk and control framework.

Accountabilities

  • Lead the development of the rolling forecast and budget for revenues and expenses that support the performance objectives of the Areas of Expertise, Corporate Areas and ATB. Ensure these targets are inextricably linked to long-term enterprise strategy.

  • Transform the rolling forecast process into an integral steering tool for executive leaders, enabling them to continually push and measure ATB’s attainment of financial performance over time.

  • Direct the preparation of all forecasting and budget materials used for senior-level discussions, including SLT and Board presentations. Ensuring these materials provide a cohesive, accurate, and strategic narrative of ATB’s financial trajectory.

  • Act as the primary advisory link between Corporate Finance, Treasury, and business units. Minimize organizational risk through the rigorous application of accounting standards and organizationally accepted financial policies while maintaining a strong control environment.

  • Establish and maintain internal and external financial controls related to financial operations and reporting, ensuring integrity across the strategic intelligence hub.

  • Oversee the synergy between FP&A (Planning), Data Science (Predictive Modeling), and Data Management (Architecture) to create a unified source of financial truth.

  • Lead the Data Science function in developing and deploying accurate and flexible machine learning based models for financial forecasting, planning and analysis purposes.

  • Act as the executive owner of finance data management (BigQuery, GCP, Anaplan), ensuring the architecture is robust, scalable, and utilized to its fullest potential.

  • Champion the identification of efficiencies across multiple functions to streamline reporting outputs with the goal to find efficiencies in data collection and material preparation.

  • Partner with the cross-functional teams to evaluate strategic initiatives (e.g. cost optimization, FTP changes, organic revenue growth) through the lens of data-backed financial value assessments and business knowledge.

Skills, experience & requirements

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in finance, with a strong preference for experience in the banking/financial services industry.

  • University degree in Business, Finance, or a related field. Professional accounting (CPA) or financial designation (CFA) is required.

  • Expert at communicating and navigating sensitive organizational discussions and conflicting priorities across different business units. You use data to drive consensus and align diverse stakeholders toward a common enterprise goal.

  • Proven experience leading technical or data-driven teams. Familiarity with the modern finance stack (Google Cloud Platform, BigQuery, Tableau, and Anaplan).

  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex financial planning cycles and present sophisticated financial narratives to the SLT and Board.

  • Ability to lead scenario planning and variance analysis while leveraging automated data pipelines to drive accuracy and speed.

  • Understanding of accounting standards and financial policies; ability to implement controls that safeguard financial reporting.

  • Able to communicate complex data science and financial outputs to non-financial audiences in a clear, compelling, and actionable way.

  • Ability to build and articulate a clear vision for the FP&A function that inspires the team to move beyond traditional reporting into strategic partnership.
