About the Role
As ATB’s next Director, Structuring & Execution, you will be a key contributor to the ATB Cormark Capital Markets multi-coverage model platform. You will deliver credit products and solutions with expert advisory services to our clients. The execution team works closely with the origination team, Corporate Banking Executive Directors (“ED”). From structuring and underwriting of transactions to funding and ongoing maintenance of the relationship, you will be responsible for ATB’s lending process and portfolio management from start to finish. You will be reporting to the Managing Director, Structuring & Execution.
Accountabilities
Contributing to the overall financial targets of ATB Cormark Capital Markets.
Managing the deal structure and credit process, including new applications, increases, and material amendments (in consultation with the ED).
Structuring and completing term sheets, loan advisories, and credit applications.
Project execution and monitoring. Undertake project risk analysis, ability to evaluate both EPC and O&M contracts, and monitoring overall project performance.
Maintaining accurate client data within the Salesforce platform.
Use of lending platforms (nCino) and risk models for underwriting.
Acting as the primary credit contact, participating in lender meetings, and attending site visits with the ED.
Collaboration and coordination with the ED on business opportunities, lending strategy and Board Memos. Addressing or referring new opportunities identified during customer interactions.
Client interactions at various levels to ensure flawless execution of requests and needs from start to finish. Gathering required information and finding a solution.
Negotiating and finalizing loan, security, and Financial Markets documentation (e.g., ISDA).
All functions related to the underwriting, onboarding and fulfillment of Credit related products.
Leverage internal and external partners in collaboration with the ED to meet client needs.
Acts as a “go-to” person for credit topics and provides guidance and leadership to Capital Markets Associate Directors and peers.
Maintaining relationships with 3rd parties (Agents, Syndicate Leads / Participant banks, Solicitors, Industry experts, Technical advisors).
Oversight and completeness of all compliance activities on your Credit portfolio.
Assist in project work as appropriate.
Portfolio Health: Manage the following with support from ATB back-office teams:
- Overseeing the construction drawdown process, monitoring monthly capital expenditures, and collaborating with Independent Engineers to meet conditions precedent prior to funding.
Ensuring Security / Collateral and Loan Documentation are complete and in good standing.
Acting promptly on deteriorating credit conditions. Maintaining and reporting on the corporate health of the portfolio.
Minimize the risk related to loan loss provisions by managing your loan portfolio at an acceptable level.
Ultimate responsibility for accuracy and completion of Margining and Covenants.
Monitoring Overdrafts/Wire Transfers.
Following up on internal audit or secondary file review items.
Engaging internal and external partners in a timely manner when required.
Skills, Experience & Requirements
About you:
Do you have a solid foundation in engineering, project management, or construction finance and desire to master complex debt structuring and capital markets execution but not a formal banking background? Skills, experience & requirements
We are seeking candidates with deep expertise in Project Finance and Structuring, typically gained within Corporate Banking, Infrastructure Funds, or Independent Power Producers (IPPs). Alternatively, we welcome leaders with an extensive background in Large-scale Construction or Capital Project Management within the infrastructure or energy sectors.
7+ years of experience in a Commercial / Corporate Banking environment and/or similar role, focused on Project Finance or related industry experience.
5+ years of experience in Senior Debt and/or Structured Debt solutions or related industry experience.
Strong understanding of credit and security documentation.
Strong financial and risk analysis skills with good understanding of accounting standards and financial modeling.
MBA / CFA / CPA / CBV are considered an asset.
