At ATB, we exist to make it possible for our clients, team members and communities. Our purpose is more than aspirational. It's a real commitment we live every day through our values (what we call the ATB ID).

Life at ATB is about more than work. In fact, we’re consistently recognized as one of Canada's top employers thanks to our high-care, high-performance culture, upheld by the three commitments we make to our team members:

Impact in action: No matter where you are in the organization, you're empowered to make an impact in the lives of our clients and communities.

Thrive together: We want you—the unique, authentic you—to feel safe and celebrated at work. We're on a continuous journey to build the most flexible and inclusive programs.

Ready for tomorrow: We want to enable your success through interesting and challenging work, performance enablement, and learning and development.

About the Role

Please note: This is a temporary 12 month term opportunity, with potential for extension. This position has a hybrid work arrangement. On average, this means 1-2 day(s) on-site per week. Please note that this is subject to change due to business priorities.

As ATB Business’ next Agricultural Underwriter, you are someone who loves solving problems and leveraging your financial skills to find ways to create a meaningful impact for our clients. Your primary responsibility is to collaborate with Relationship Managers to structure and recommend optimum credit solutions for ATB's Agricultural clientele. You are considered a knowledgeable lender with a good understanding of ATB's credit risk appetite and have some experience structuring more complex credits. While this is not a customer-facing role, you may be required to meet virtually with clients or other external partners. You will report to the Agricultural Director, Central Underwriting. Your day-to-day work would involve credit risk analysis and preparing formal credit presentations along with meeting with your RM &/or Credit partners to determine optimum credit solutions. There will also be opportunity to showcase your leadership and presentation skills through various project work.

Accountabilities

  • Structure and prepare credit assessments/applications for new and existing agricultural clients with risk exposures up to 5 million in lending.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of financial statements, cash flows, and capital structures to thoroughly assess risk and recommend appropriate credit solutions.
  • Develop and interpret financial models, including projections and sensitivity analyses, to validate repayment capacity and stress-test assumptions.
  • Partner with the Relationship Management team as a key member of the first line of defense, providing risk assessment, challenging assumptions where necessary, and collaboratively structuring credit solutions that balance client needs with ATB's risk appetite.
  • Experience with standard and non-standard margining protocol, Early Warnings Signals and Covenants.
  • Ensure all credit applications are meticulously documented and that overall loan quality adheres to established internal credit policies and regulatory standards.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and mentor to junior underwriters and sales team members, sharing advanced credit knowledge and best practices to foster a culture of sound and consistent lending.

Skills, Experience & Requirements

  • Business or accounting degree or related business experience.
  • 2 to 3 years experience underwriting agricultural business loans or lending experience.
  • Strong analytical and financial analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Don’t meet all the requirements on the list?
A resume only goes so far in expressing who you are and the unique perspectives you bring. If you believe your skills and experience align with the role—but you might not check all the boxes—we want to hear from you. We encourage candidates from all work backgrounds, equity-seeking communities and experience levels to apply. If you’re seeking a career where your drive, perspective and growth are celebrated, we want to hear from you.

We’re dedicated to building a workforce reflective of those within our communities, and a culture where our team members are equipped with what they need to succeed—their way. Part of creating an inclusive workplace is recognizing our role in advancing Truth and Reconciliation. We are committed to meeting and exceeding the standards set out in the Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations program created by the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business.
