At ATB, we exist to make it possible for our clients, team members and communities. Our purpose is more than aspirational. It's a real commitment we live every day through our values (what we call the ATB ID).

Life at ATB is about more than work. In fact, we’re consistently recognized as one of Canada's top employers thanks to our high-care, high-performance culture, upheld by the three commitments we make to our team members:

Impact in action: No matter where you are in the organization, you're empowered to make an impact in the lives of our clients and communities.

Thrive together: We want you—the unique, authentic you—to feel safe and celebrated at work. We're on a continuous journey to build the most flexible and inclusive programs.

Ready for tomorrow: We want to enable your success through interesting and challenging work, performance enablement, and learning and development.

About the Role

The Senior Manager, Governance & Associates is a critical leadership role within ATB Investment Management (ATBIM) responsible for the design, implementation, and oversight of the Private Investment Counsel (PIC) governance framework. This role ensures the group operates within internal risk limits and ASC regulatory requirements while overseeing the tactical development, performance, and mentorship of Associate Investment Counselors (AICs). By bridging the gap between compliance standards and frontline execution, this leader drives operational excellence, enhances the client experience, and fosters high employee engagement.

Accountabilities

Associate Leadership & Talent Development

  • Direct People Management: Lead the Associate Investment Counselor (AIC) team, overseeing daily workflows, tactical planning, and the execution of their core responsibilities.
  • Performance & Mentorship: Drive the performance management cycle for AICs, providing consistent coaching and technical mentorship to prepare them for future Lead Counselor roles.
  • Capacity Planning: Optimize the allocation of AIC resources across the Investment Counselor teams to ensure high levels of service and operational efficiency.
  • Engagement & Culture: Foster a high-performance culture by implementing professional development roadmaps and tracking employee engagement metrics within the associate group.

Governance & Regulatory Oversight

  • Framework Design: Develop and maintain a robust departmental governance framework that aligns with ATBIM’s risk appetite and ASC regulatory requirements.
  • Risk Limit Management: Establish and monitor internal risk limits for discretionary portfolios, ensuring active oversight of asset allocation drifts and concentration risks.
  • IPS Compliance: Lead the audit and verification process for Investment Policy Statements (IPS) to ensure every client mandate is executed with precision and documented correctly.
  • Compliance Liaison: Act as the primary PIC point of contact for the Compliance and Investment Management Research (IMR) teams to streamline information flow and regulatory reporting.
  • Audit Preparation: Oversee the preparation and organization of departmental records to ensure "audit-ready" status for internal and external regulatory reviews.

Operational Excellence

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with the Leader of Portfolio Associates to eliminate silos and ensure a seamless hand-off between licensed and unlicensed support functions.
  • Client Experience Enhancement: Monitor portfolio-level data to identify trends that impact client outcomes, ensuring governance protocols translate into a superior client experience.
  • Process Optimization: Identify and implement process improvements within the discretionary management workflow to reduce manual errors and increase scalability.

Skills, Experience & Requirements

  • University Degree preferably in the business, financial or economic field, MBA would be an asset
  • CFA charter holder or CIM designation
  • Proven track record of successful cross-functional management and demonstrated expertise in modern leadership best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to build, empower, and retain high-performing teams while developing emerging leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to elevate operational standards, champion continuous improvement, and model high performance across diverse functional areas.

Don’t meet all the requirements on the list?
A resume only goes so far in expressing who you are and the unique perspectives you bring. If you believe your skills and experience align with the role—but you might not check all the boxes—we want to hear from you. We encourage candidates from all work backgrounds, equity-seeking communities and experience levels to apply. If you’re seeking a career where your drive, perspective and growth are celebrated, we want to hear from you.

We’re dedicated to building a workforce reflective of those within our communities, and a culture where our team members are equipped with what they need to succeed—their way. Part of creating an inclusive workplace is recognizing our role in advancing Truth and Reconciliation. We are committed to meeting and exceeding the standards set out in the Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations program created by the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business.
