Position Summary
BCIT’sSchool of Health Sciences is seeking a regular, full time (1.0 FTE) Assistant Instructor to support instruction and technical services in the Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) program.

The successful candidate will have a comprehensive role in a face-to-face learning environment and will be an integral part of the BSN Team.
Duties & Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with BSN simulation and student success course preparation, delivery and evaluation
  • Assist with course preparation, delivery, and evaluation (including marking)
  • Demonstrate and give practical instruction in simulation (all modalities) within scope of practice
  • Assist with coordination of simulation learning activities
  • Set up for simulation, lab, and student success activities according to best practice
  • Troubleshoot, problem solve, and maintain technology, equipment, methodology and workflow – including supporting faculty and students.
  • Support inventory levels of laboratory supplies.
  • Perform other administrative duties as required, including accreditation, program review and committee work, attend program meetings
  • Undertake related duties as assigned, consistent with this position
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Qualifications:

  • BSN degree or, or RPN degree, or RN diploma or, LPN diploma,
  • At least 4 years clinical or related experience
  • Simulation certification preferred
  • BCCNM registration, or equivalent, preferred
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Teaching education and certification preferred (i.e. Masters, Certified Educator)
  • Experience and certification with simulated technology preferred
  • Evidence of continuing education in the field
  • Microsoft 365 (Sharepoint), Microsoft Office Suite, and Learning Management System


The ideal candidate:

  • Has simulation knowledge and technical ability essential to multiple simulation modalities procedures, policies and standards
  • Has relevant nursing knowledge and practice experience and ability to support delivery of undergraduate nursing content within their scope of practice
  • Can effectively convey and evaluate fundamental and complex theory with adult learners
  • Takes initiative; works independently and reliably with limited supervision
  • Practices effective time management: organizes self and workflow; adapts to changes in workflow and prioritizes to meet deadlines
  • Comfortable working in an unstructured environment and in various simulation and other teaching settings
  • Has good problem-solving skills: troubleshoots testing processes and reagents effectively
  • Supports a culture of respect, understanding, diversity, equity, inclusion and demonstrates an appreciation for diverse perspectives while working respectfully and collaboratively with students and staff
  • Listens, presents and writes effectively; uses communication technology appropriately and effectively
  • Has experience with word processing, spreadsheets, and online learning environments
  • Is a competent resource person for students and colleagues
  • Desire and willingness to learn, change and be flexible for changes in simulation and nursing education
  • Work in fast paced environment that requires problem solving
  • Strong interpersonal skills and committed to a collaborative approach to education and training as well as ability to work independently and interdependently when required.

Salary Range Salary Range: $68,182 - $93,143 per annum.

Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
