Position Summary
BCIT’s Digital Arts, Media and Design department within the School of Business + Media offers a range of programs in the areas of Animation and Gaming, Web and Mobile, and Communication and Graphics. We are currently seeking two (2) temporary, part-time (0.2 FTE) Instructors to teach full-time students in the Diploma in 3D Modeling, Art and Animation, from May to August 2026.
Duties & Responsibilities
The instructor assignments are for:

  • MDAA 4040 Game Design Pipeline 2 (20%)
    • In this course, students build on the skills developed in Game Design Pipeline 1. Students create complex materials that can be configured for multiple purposes within a game engine for both meshes and terrains. Students create animated camera moves for creating non-interactive sequences. Students develop skills to add extra visual impact to environments and characters using the particle system. Students also learn to create modular game assets to build out an optimized environment and set up animations to use in the game engine. In groups, students create a working game demo incorporating assets developed throughout this course.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma or Degree in 3D Animation, Game Art, Visual Effects, Computer Graphics, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional industry experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in game development, environment art, technical art, or real-time production pipelines.
  • Demonstrated expertise in real-time game development workflows using Unreal Engine.
  • Familiarity with collaborative game development workflows, including version control systems such as Perforce.
  • Experience creating modular game assets used to construct flexible and optimized game environments.
  • Strong understanding of game asset pipelines, including modeling, texturing, animation integration, and engine implementation.
  • Experience creating and configuring particle systems and visual effects to enhance environments and gameplay visuals.
  • Familiarity with collision systems and physics setup, including creating and configuring custom colliders for game assets.
  • Experience developing customizable materials and shaders suitable for meshes and terrain within a game engine.
  • Experience creating camera sequences and in-engine cinematic presentations for non-interactive sequences.
  • Familiarity with environment construction tools, including spline systems used to create paths, roads, or environmental features.
  • Strong understanding of game optimization techniques, including proper lighting modes and performance considerations.
  • Experience implementing character and prop animations within a game engine.
  • Ability to guide students through team-based project development, including pitching concepts, milestone planning, and final playable demo presentations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support students from a range of skill levels

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous post-secondary teaching or mentoring experience.
  • Demonstrated industry success with appropriate and current experience and skills in the entire 3D pipeline including: 3D Modeling, Animating, Rigging, Texturing, Lighting, and Rendering.
  • Experience in Redshift, Arnold, and Unreal Engine.

Salary Range $65,045 - $113,545 per annum
Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
