Position Summary
BCIT’s School of Energy is seeking a temporary, full-time (1.0 FTE) BCGEU Faculty in our Industrial Instrumentation Department.
Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The department currently teaches all four levels of the Red Seal Instrumentation and Control Technician (Industrial Instrument Mechanic) Apprenticeship program, a two year Industrial Instrumentation Process and Control Technician diploma program, and custom-designed Industry Services training courses for corporate customers. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing instruction to students, preparing and presenting classroom lectures, laboratory projects, and examinations as assigned. The Instructor will also be responsible for upgrading and preparing lesson materials on an ongoing basis, as well as maintaining contact with industry to remain current in the industrial control field. This position may require shift work as defined in Article 14.1 of the Collective Agreement, and may require some travel.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Instrumentation and Control Technician (Industrial Instrument Mechanic) or Instrumentation Engineering Technologist with Red Seal Interprovincial Certificate
  • A minimum of five years’ recent work experience as a journeyperson in industries such as Gas/Oil, Mining/Metals processing, Water and/or Waste Water Treatment, or Pulp & Paper.
  • An excellent written and oral command of the English language.
  • Basic computer literacy, including use of the internet, e-mail system and MS Office.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and a strong desire to teach.
  • Previous supervisory or teaching experience with skills and abilities to instruct the curriculum.
  • DCS and/or PLC experience is required.
  • Power Engineering 4th class or higher certificate would be considered an asset.
  • (Red Seal) Industrial Electrician qualification would be considered an asset.
  • BC Provincial Instructors Diploma or equivalent would be an asset.

Good to have:
  • Professional Engineering or Technologist (Instrumentation or Electrical).
  • Team-oriented, software experience (AutoCAD, Excel, PowerPoint, PLC, Delta V etc.), and background in other professions such as HVAC/Refrigeration, Electrical or Power Engineering.
  • Previous experience as a trainer or instructor would also be an asset
