Position Summary
BCIT’s School of Energy is seeking four (4) temporary, full-time (1.0 FTE) Faculty to join the Department of Electrical Engineering and Technology at the Burnaby campus.

These positions will support delivery across multiple programs, including the Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (BEng), Bachelor of Technology (BTech), Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology (ECET) for Power Option, and Automation and Instrumentation Option.

The successful candidates will deliver lectures and laboratory instruction, develop and maintain course materials, evaluate student performance, supervise student projects, and contribute to the effective operation and continuous improvement of the department. Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidates will deliver lectures and laboratory instruction, develop course materials, evaluate student performance, supervise student projects, and support the day-to-day operations of the department.

The successful candidates will be responsible for meeting course learning objectives, creating a positive and inclusive learning environment, participating in departmental activities, engaging with colleagues, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives, in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

The candidate must have experience using electronics laboratory equipment (e.g., power supplies, oscilloscopes, function generators, spectrum analyzers) and a solid foundation in one or more of the following areas:
Option 1
  • Real-time embedded systems, including hardware and software design
  • Digital signal processing, including algorithm and filter design
  • Analog and digital communications
  • Electrical and electronic circuit analysis
  • Software engineering principles, including data structures and algorithms
OR
Option 2
  • Control systems, including PLCs and/or DCS (e.g., Siemens, Schneider, DeltaV)
  • Commissioning and troubleshooting process control systems and loops
  • Process equipment and plant operations (processes, case studies, application examples etc.)
  • Industrial networking, systems integration, and cybersecurity
  • Industrial protocols (e.g., Modbus, OPC-UA, Ethernet/IP, PROFINET)
  • Process instrumentation (e.g., flow, pressure, analytical instrumentation, control valves)
  • Instrumentation documentation and standards
  • Industrial safety practices and standards
OR
Option 3
  • PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens S7 TIA Portal, Schneider) and HMI configuration
  • Motor control systems, VFDs, and three-phase equipment
  • Power factor correction and electrical power fundamentals
  • Relay and contactor control circuits
  • Electrical systems troubleshooting and operation
OR
Option 4
  • Operation of test and measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, analyzers, power supplies, multimeters)
  • Digital logic design and circuit troubleshooting
  • Hardware description languages (HDL) and digital system design tools
  • PCB design, fabrication, and rework
  • Laboratory safety practices, equipment maintenance, and student support
  • Expertise in Spectrum Analyzers, Digital Logic Analyzers, and RF/Digital debugging is highly desirable
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • For BEng / BTech teaching: Minimum Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • For ECET diploma programs: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant industry experience
  • Registration (or eligibility for registration) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) is required for teaching in Bachelor programs
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills in English (written and oral)
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and independently
  • Commitment to professional development and maintaining current technical knowledge
  • Ability to support diverse learners in an inclusive educational environment
  • Experience in post-secondary teaching, curriculum development, or industry training is considered an asset

Assets
In addition, experience in the following areas will be considered an asset:
  • Programming (Python, C, C++)
  • MATLAB®, LabVIEW®, or equivalent simulation tools
  • Schematic and PCB design
  • Post-secondary teaching or industry training experience
  • Experience in applied industrial environments and safety-critical systems
  • Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), functional safety, or safety-related control applications.
  • Broad process knowledge of multiple industries such as pulp and paper, mining, refining, power boilers.

Salary Range Salary Range: $65,045 - $113,545 per annum.
