Position Description:
At CGI, we are looking for a professional AS400 RPG Developer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in developing, maintaining, and optimizing applications on the AS400 platform (also known as IBM iSeries). The candidate must have a proven background in Agile/Waterfall/RAD development, requires a deep understanding of RPG, CL, and SQL programming languages and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues. As an AS400 Developer, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement solutions that meet business requirements while ensuring system reliability and performance. Your expertise will play a critical role in supporting and modernizing legacy systems and integrating them with new technologies. In this position, you will be responsible for analyzing user requirements, designing technical solutions, and writing efficient code to enhance existing systems or create new applications. You will also be tasked with performing testing, debugging, and providing technical support to ensure seamless operations. A successful candidate will have excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Your future duties and responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain applications on the AS400 platform.
• Knowledge in EDI and transaction set for transportation/logistics.
• Provide support for a large transportation company.
• Analyze business requirements and design technical solutions to possibly provide estimates for enhancement or project work.
• In-depth knowledge of SQL/400 and other AS/400 utilities.
• Assist in Deployment and provide Post-Deployment Support.
• Excellent understanding of CL & OS/400 commands.
• Write, test, and debug RPG, CL, and SQL code.
• Experience with complex SQL concepts and programming – Experience with FTP concepts and Automation.
• Knowledge in developing API’s for upstream/downstream integrations.
• Experience creating, building, and maintaining different libraries in an AS/400 environment.
• Optimize system performance and ensure reliability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement solutions.
• Provide technical support and troubleshoot system issues.
• Diagnose and solve production issues in a timely manner.
• Document system processes and updates.
• Assist in modernizing legacy systems and integrating new technologies.
• Work in a 7x24 environment.
• Strict adherence to client standards i.e. Documentation
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
• Proven experience as an AS400 Developer or similar role with at least 5 years’ experience.
• Proficiency in RPG, CL, and SQL programming languages.
• Knowledge in Debugging and Testing Tools like STRDBG and Service Tools.
• Knowledge in Version Control Tools like GIT.
• Knowledge in ServiceNow.
• Assist in the creation and updating of internal operations support manuals.
• Strong understanding of AS400/iSeries architecture.
• Experience with system analysis and design.
• Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.
• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, College Certificate or a related field is often preferred.
• Experience in the field of Logistics/Trucking/Warehouse/Shipping/Invoicing would be beneficial. Knowledge in Applications like ICC and TELL would be beneficial.
