As a DevSecOps Engineer at Octo, you will be responsible for supporting multiple delivery projects for the Department of Veterans Affairs. This role will be responsible for supporting and providing continuous integration and delivery, with code, of cloud resources used by data engineering teams. You will also be supporting the infrastructure and implementation of various software applications and cloud services. You will proactively participate in the infrastructure code lifecycle including version control, implementation, test design, test implementation, optimization, and delivery utilizing the latest technologies. Along with every aspect of this job is an emphasis on security and demonstrated knowledge of how to deploy and configure infrastructure following secure best practices. Strongly prefer those with knowledge of infrastructure as code to configure and deploy Azure resources.

Program Mission…

This program supports Veterans Affairs’ strategic mission of furthering efforts to modernize its data analytics platform and enhance accessibility to enterprise data and reporting tools.

Responsibilities…

  • Support the design and implementation of infrastructure as code using git technologies with version control systems.
  • Design and optimize code and infrastructure with a focus on security.
  • Proactively participate in every aspect of the software development lifecycle including design, implementation, test design, test implementation, optimization, and delivery utilizing the latest technologies.
  • Partner with data engineering teams to ensure agile infrastructure delivery configuration following DevSecOps best practices.
  • Deploy code changes in different environments for testing and production environments.
  • Collaboration in code reviews, agile ceremonies like retrospectives, daily standups, and sprint planning, pair programming.
  • Coordinate with program and project leaders to analyze technologies being utilized on the projects.
  • Maintain the integrity of services integrated with our cloud environments, including proprietary in-house systems and external integrations.

Years of Experience: 5+ years of related experience in software engineering and development, including at least 3+ years of experience with overseeing and managing the DevOps lifecycle.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or other technical discipline required, OR a minimum of 8 years equivalent work experience.

Location: Remote within the United States.

Clearance: Ability to obtain public trust clearance.


Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • 5+ years working with DevOps/release management with an understanding of CI/CD processes and integration concepts.

  • 4+ years of infrastructure as code experience primarily in Terraform.

  • 4+ years of experience in git technology and version control (GitHub).

  • 3+ years of experience with overseeing and managing the DevOps lifecycle.

  • 3+ years of experience in managing infrastructure.

  • Must have experience with some Azure resources, i.e. Databricks, Datalake, Data Factory, Function Apps Machine Learning, Virtual Machines, SQL Databases, Roll Base Access Control, etc.
  • Must understand Microsoft Azure Active Directory for authentication and access management.
  • Expertise in modern technologies such as RESTful Services, Git, Microservice Architectures.
  • Experience working with PowerShell and Shell scripting or others.
  • Strong troubleshooting experience.
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and drive to deliver best-in-class software and cloud infrastructure.
  • Clearance: Ability to obtain public trust clearance.


Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Experience in OS Administration Linux and Windows.
  • Experience with Collibra and/or Trifacta software.
  • Experience in networking; Azure Vnets, Peering, Security Groups, Routing.
  • Experience in TLS Certificate Management.
  • Experience supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs or other federal organizations.
  • Working knowledge of Azure Databricks.
  • Strong technical presentation skills.
