Overview

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. As a CO+I Mechanical Engineer, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years related technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 1+ years related technical engineering experience
      • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • Citizenship & Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate’s citizenship will be verified with a valid passport.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • 8+ years related technical mechanical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years related technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related technical engineering experience
    • OR Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 1+ years related technical engineering experience
    • OR equivalent experience.

Mechanical Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical authority for on-site operations related to a large-scale mission critical mechanical system, design, and functionality.
  • Manage the mechanical infrastructures throughout datacenter campus ranging from a single large capacity facility, to several smaller ones.
  • Work with commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of mechanical, civil and control systems.
  • Understand the design and functionality of your datacenter.
  • Establish and coordinate maintenance and safety procedures, maintaining highly redundant mechanical designs.
  • Support 24x7x365 on-site datacenters operations and mechanical infrastructure.
  • Empower a culture of safety, security, and compliance in all aspect of data center activities.
  • Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Must possess leadership competencies and a willingness to collaborate and work cross- functionally to maximize business results and positive customer experiences.
  • Exhibit interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills to be used at varying levels of business up to and including business executives.
  • Able to work with other technical and non-technical groups.
  • Be a person of integrity, be methodical, and detailed-oriented.
