Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Within Azure Data, the Microsoft Fabric platform team builds and maintains the operating system and provides customers a unified data stack to run an entire data estate. The platform provides a unified experience, unified governance, enables a unified business model and a unified architecture.

Fabric platform team is working on advanced security features for Fabric Platform. The Principal Engineering Manager will lead a team of developers that work on design, development and integration of these security features with multiple workloads across the platform.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

• 4+ years as an engineering manager
• Experience/knowledge of cloud computing, enterprise computing, database products
• Experience in technical leadership in driving engineering roadmaps, leading v-teams, mentoring and helping others grow technically.
• Passion to grow a diverse team of engineers and managers

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • 4+ years people management experience Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript
    • OR Python OR equivalent experience.

• 15+ years of industry experience in software development and building world class solutions.
• Both written and verbal communications skills (to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels)
• Exposure to network and encryption technologies
• Exposure to cloud technology stacks from Microsoft, Amazon, or Google

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year. • Develop highly-efficient code that scales to millions of active users at minimal operational costs.
• A hands-on technical leader who sets the engineering direction with sound design practices and guides the team with best practices in software design
• Establish KPIs and successfully drive execution through collaboration and partnership with PM team and partners.
• Mentor and grow senior engineers in the team.
• Lead the team by bringing clarity, creating energy, and driving results.
• Stakeholder management while prioritizing work for your team through collaboration with partner teams.
• Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of various capabilities within migration with focus on quality, scale and sustainable development practices.
• Drive a proficient culture of live site and customer obsession within the team.
