Overview

Azure is the fastest-growing business in Microsoft’s history and is the foundation of Microsoft’s commercial Cloud Services. The Azure Core team builds and manages the core platform across compute, storage, and networking services. We have exciting opportunities for you to innovate and shape the world’s computers, and we encourage you to apply and learn more!

We are looking for a talented Principal Software Engineer to help us deliver highly scalable services and world-class product experiences. We value people who can bring a diverse perspective to our products and where a developer will not just write code but will have a real meaningful impact on the direction of the products and which features to build.

Azure Core Capacity Services form the backbone of Microsoft’s Azure cloud infrastructure, ensuring that both internal services and external customers have reliable access to compute, storage, and networking resources.

Our team is responsible for developing the orchestration engines that power workflow hosting, job execution management, and the delivery of robust APIs and telemetry. We enable declarative provisioning, dependency-aware orchestration, and enforce service-level agreements (SLAs) to maintain operational excellence.

We take a ground-up approach to engineering, designing and implementing custom algorithms for high-speed processing of massive datasets and pioneering secure, high-throughput data transfer solutions.

A Principal Software Engineer on our team is expected to be deeply committed to building Azure from first principles, embracing the challenge of minimizing reliance on external technologies that could introduce latency or instability.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
