Overview

Microsoft Business Operations (MBO) focuses on how business partnerships lead to impactful outcomes. We achieve this through our core values: People, Prioritization, Partnership, and Protect.

The Global Trade Organization, within the Risk Management, Trust and Safety (RTS) group of MBO is responsible for export controls and sanctions compliance for Microsoft’s products, services, and technology. The team owns and manages trade compliance processes, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations and provides trade subject matter expertise internally and externally.

This role will proactively plan to address immediate Trade related regulatory updates, compliance needs for changing regulations, and build longer-term plans to address emerging regulatory measures. You will take a strategic view in driving beyond the day to day and help to build a robust plan for today, and for tomorrow while implementing and driving for continuous improvement and leveraging AI in processes to pave the way for innovation and growth by setting standards and priorities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Law, or related field AND 10+ years of corporate, trade, or supply chain experience
    • OR Master's degree in Business Administration, Law, or related field AND 8+ years of corporate, trade, or supply chain experience
    • OR equivalent experience
  • 5+ years people management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Law, or related field AND 15+ years of corporate, trade, or supply chain experience
    • OR Master's degree in Business Administration, Law, or related field AND 12+ years of corporate, trade, or supply chain experience
    • OR Doctorate in Business Administration, Law, or related field AND 8+ years of corporate, trade, or supply chain experience
    • OR equivalent experience
  • 7+ years people management experience
  • Certification with ECTI (similar export certification program) or equivalent
    • OR in-country professional trade certifications or licenses.
  • 8+ years of experience on Trade Compliance, with at least 5 years dedicated to the international trade environment in a challenging industry environment and structured training program
  • 2+ years supervising an organization of trade compliance professionals.
  • Basic knowledge of U.S. denied parties and sanctioned country laws and regulations, including OFAC and other country sanctions regulations preferred

Import Export Trade M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $277,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $303,600 per year.

Responsibilities

People Management

• Provide support and core priority guidance to team.

• Ensure seamless communication and alignment across functional departments.

• Set expectations for accountability.

• Work with staff, reviewing deliverables to ensure work quality and completion, while providing ongoing feedback.

• Managers deliver success through empowerment and accountability by modeling, coaching, and caring.

Compliance

• You will be engaging closely with business unit customers and partners to provide

subject-matter expertise and support related to OFAC and other country economic sanctions programs, as well as U.S. export control laws and regulations.

• Perform compliance reviews and investigations, identifying export controls/sanctions/OFAC-related risks or concerns.

• Manage engagements related to sanctions/OFAC/export control reviews, including transactional lookbacks, process improvements, system tuning, and segregation.

• Draft memos for stakeholders detailing risk and mitigation measures.

• Provide guidance and ensure compliance with export controls and sanctions laws, including end-user, end-use regulatory requirements.

• Regulatory reporting, management reporting, operational metrics, visibility, communication, and sharing achievements.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Provides consultation, communications, direction, roadmap objectives, and awareness to senior stakeholders in various business functions in order to ensure Trade compliance covering Sanctions & Embargoes, OFAC, Export controls and Customs.

• Partners with global business stakeholders to ensure compliance with export and import control laws and regulations in Microsoft's numerous jurisdictions. Facilitates an environment of inclusion that leverages diverse perspectives and talent, to better represent and understand global customers.

• Conduct Executive Briefings

Audit

• Plans for review of trade controls, compliance reviews, and audits supporting Microsoft's export controlled and sanctions impacted programs. Identifies areas for improvement, provides feedback to staff and auditors, and executes corrective action plans.

Reporting

• Helps the team provide appropriate data-collection efforts for regulatory obligations. Manages trade related risk analysis, setting metrics, and defining the requirements for trade solutions.

•Ensures data availability for government reporting.

•Manages and contributes to the research development and implementation of reporting and insights across the enterprise.

Forecast and monitor budgeting requirements.

• Identifies business training needs and aids in developing training pertaining to government controlled programs. Coordinates and facilitates compliance training and change management training for internal business partners.

•Oversee the identification of the team's training needs and the content development process.

Process Improvement

• Drive efficiencies for trade processes by monitoring feedback (e.g., from internal controllership), determine needed updates, institute policy changes by overseeing updates for Procedures, and provide executive communication updates. Challenge the norms; test and verify. Drive innovation across the organization to support process improvement.
