Overview
The Windows + Devices Fundamentals (W+D) team is responsible for the reliability, performance, battery life and sustainability of Windows devices. Our work touches the full stack of hardware and OEM partners, the operating system as well as the application layers to protect, manage and improve the Fundamentals of the Windows ecosystem.
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer - Windows Fundementals to help us shape the next wave of innovations to optimize battery life on Windows devices. As we pursue key advances in the areas of AI, silicon and software, we remain laser-focused on establishing battery life as a delighter for the Copilot+ PC brand. The set of tools/technologies we use to achieve our objectives include C, C++, C#, scripting, Windbg, Cosmos/Kusto/Asimov and other trace processing applications in Azure, python, machine learning models, Power BI, statistics, Windows Performance Analyzer, ETW tracing, low-level silicon and OS tools and power instrumented hardware.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- 1+ year in systems analysis with emphasis on power and performance optimization.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- Analysis capabilities towards optimizing systems.
- Knowledge of power or performance areas
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities
- Characterize how software and hardware behave locally and at scale through debugging and analysis of telemetry/trace data.
- Identify opportunities and lead design and architecture of improvements and optimizations.
- Implement code changes across the software/hardware stack.
- Deliver improvements that are robust and of high-quality considering tradeoffs and consistency of the technology stack.
