The Business & Industry Copilots group is a rapidly growing organization that is responsible for the Microsoft Dynamics 365 suite of products, Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse, AI Builder, Microsoft Industry Solution and more. We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join our team.


Copilot Studio is expanding its footprint in professional development tools including a language server and IDE extensions. This enables professional developers to quickly build and deploy autonomous or interactive Agents for a variety of use cases. They will use the companion SDK to integrate these into their apps.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience with compilers.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with pro-dev concepts and tool chain.
  • Experience working on production compiler used by a million people.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.

Responsibilities

Copilot Studio is expanding its footprint in professional

development tools including a language server and IDE extensions. This enables professional developers to quickly build and deploy autonomous or interactive Agents for a variety of use cases. They will use the companion SDK to integrate these into their apps.

We're looking for an engineer to build tooling for customers such as a VS Code extension for Microsoft Copilot Studio. These responsibilities include:

  • Design: Leads efforts and discussions for the architecture of aspects of products/solutions (e.g., design, cost).
    • Creates proposals for architecture and design documents, and leads testing of hypotheses and proposed solutions.
  • Coding: Leads efforts to optimize, debug, refactor, and reuse code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
    • Identifies best practices and coding patterns and provides deep expertise in the coding and validation strategy.
  • Implement: Leads efforts for creation and conducting of experimentation to determine the effectiveness of changes, monitors developments for prototyping and testing products, interprets results, and decides on next steps or ship decision from results.
    • Drives identification of the correct metrics for experimentation in determining improving customer value.
  • Reliability and Supportability: Integrates, designs, and reviews others' work across a team or product to integrate instrumentation for gathering telemetry data on system behavior such as performance, reliability, availability, usage, and safety mechanisms.
    • Drives sustaining feedback loops from telemetry resulting in subsequent designs. Ensures solutions are scalable, financially responsible, and meet capture/storage guidelines. Leads the creation of outputs of telemetry such as notifications or dashboards.
  • Engineering Excellence: Leads efforts to enhance, reuse, contribute to, and identify new software developer tools to support other programs and applications to create, debug, and maintain code across products.
    • Uses open source when possible. Develops substantial skills in other tools inside and outside areas of expertise.
