Overview

The Azure Core Compute team is building the next generation of cloud infrastructure that powers Microsoft Azure. We are seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager to lead high-impact initiatives that shape the architecture, scalability, and reliability of our distributed systems platform.

This is a leadership role for someone who thrives at the intersection of deep technical understanding and strategic execution. You will be responsible for driving clarity and solving hard problems across engineering and product teams, ensuring that our most ambitious technical goals are realized with precision and purpose. Your work will directly influence the evolution of Azure Compute.


You will lead through technical insight and strategic clarity—owning the delivery of critical initiatives, influencing design decisions, and ensuring engineering investments are aligned with long-term platform goals. Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of software industry experience working as a technical program manager, product manager or developer.
  • 1+ year(s) of Agile development methodology - Track record of working closely with development teams.
  • 1+ year(s) of communication and presentation skills, and ability to speak with influence and impact. Able to communicate complex technical information clearly, to people with or without a technical background.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of technical program or product management experience in a cloud environment.
  • 1+ year(s) of technical background and solid foundation in software engineering principles and architecture design.
  • 1+ year(s) of hands on experience with data analytic tools (such as Power BI, SQL).
  • 1+ year(s) of self-directed execution.
  • 1+ year(s) of communication and presentation skills, and ability to speak with influence and impact. Able to communicate complex technical information clearly, to people with or without a technical background.

Technical Program Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

  • Provide technical leadership across Azure Compute by identifying architectural gaps, scaling challenges, and opportunities for innovation.
  • Drive the design and delivery of platform-wide initiatives that improve system reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with engineering and product leaders to align technical strategy with customer and business priorities.
  • Take a structural approach in solving complex problems. Communicate to senior decision makers in a clear and compelling way.
  • Stellar cross group collaboration, able to drive decisive action in partnership with others in a large & diverse organization and deliver results that depend on the broader Microsoft organization.
  • Define targets for key business KPIs, and track and report progress on them.
  • Help lead and champion a team culture that embraces diversity.
