As a Principal Product Manager, you will lead a product line within the Surface Portfolio defining product vision and strategy while working in close collaboration with leaders across engineering, design, finance, marketing, and operations. You will lead peers and Surface leaders as an end-to-end Product Manager, partnering with a world-class Program Management team to deliver exceptional product experiences across hardware and software. This role is based in Redmond, Washington and allows partial flexibility in working from home.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/service/project/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years experience leading cross-functional teams through complex processes to desired results while managing risk in an ambiguous and rapidly evolving environment.
  • 2+ years experience developing product roadmaps and shipping hardware or software products that deliver customer and business value.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in product/service/project/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Deep understanding of product management at a mass scale, business operations, and product financials as well as a deep curiosity and passion for customers, products, and growing the business.
  • Demonstrated expertise in leading organizational transformation.

Product Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Lead through ambiguity; translate ideas into product vision; identify clear roadmaps, crisp requirements, and compelling product narratives grounded in customer insight and market foresight. Lead through influence, aligning engineering, design, marketing, and other stakeholders by building trust and shared ownership to drive product definition and business case development to support portfolio line growth and operational excellence.
  • Serve as a model of excellence in product management, empowering teams by creating clarity, surfacing obstacles, and modeling solid decision-making and product advocacy.
  • Keep a pulse on the market, tracking competitors, market trends, and industry shifts; identify strategic opportunities or threats. Engage both internal and external customers, utilizing sales teams, commercial partnerships, and direct communication with end users.
  • Work with marketing and other teams to define and understand target audience as well as product purpose and the value it brings.
  • Craft product line storytelling to help customers understand the uniqueness of Surface and why our products are best in class.
  • Advocate for your products and customers, combining an understanding of the ecosystem and categories to guide product, portfolio and business evolution.
  • Drive continuous improvement among the Product Management team by identifying and implementing opportunities to leverage AI, enabling the team to focus on high-impact, strategic work.
