Overview

Microsoft’s Cloud business is expanding, and the Cloud Supply Chain (CSCP) organization is responsible for enabling the hardware infrastructure underlying this growth including AI! CSCP’s vision is to empower customers to achieve more by delivering Cloud and AI capabilities at scale. Our mission is to deliver the world's computer with an industry-leading supply chain. The CSCP organization is responsible for traditional supply chain functions such as plan, source, make, deliver, but also manages supportability (spares), sustainability, and decommissioning of datacenter assets worldwide. We deliver the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform for external customers. Our infrastructure is supported by more than 300 datacenters around the world that enable services for more than 1 billion customers in over 90 countries.

Microsoft Cloud Planning (MCP) is the central planning function within CSCP focused on forecasting, demand planning, and supply planning for all Microsoft Cloud services and associated hardware, directly impacting the success of Microsoft's cloud business.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years people management experience; excellent communication and relationship-building skills; ability to effectively coordinate and collaborate with key stakeholders, resolve problems, and seek practical solutions.
  • 3+ years of proven analytical skills and knowledge in root cause analysis/problem solving and the ability to implement and drive corrective actions and efficiencies in a matrix environment.
  • 2+ years of experience with demand forecasting and planning in Cloud and/or high-tech hardware supply chain.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ years supply chain of any combination of demand forecasting, capacity planning, data science, program management, operations, and business planning experience
  • Proven people management capabilities or aptitude
  • Experience leading cross-functional processes / programs with key stakeholders, e.g., Product, Finance, Engineering, Operations, Supply Planning
  • Hands-on leadership experience moving fluidly from long-term strategy to day-to-day tactical implementation
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to lead in ambiguous situations and deal effectively with conflicting priorities and changes
  • Ability to get the best out of others
  • Proficient in business presentation tools (e.g., word, power point, excel); able to generate and/or mentor others to produce high-quality outputs
  • Proficiency in Enterprise Planning systems (such as SAP, Oracle, E2Open, etc.) and business intelligence engines (SQL, Power BI, Power Pivot, Tableau, etc.)
  • MS or MBA degree

Technical Program Management M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will lead the team that forecasts, plans, and manages capacity for Azure Data Services, the largest Platform as a Service (PAAS), M365 and other offerings within Microsoft’s Cloud. This team estimates consumption usage, plans for large scale migrations, develops efficiency plans with engineering, and partners with supply planning on procurement and execution strategies. You will partner closely with leaders across the organization in Engineering Groups, Finance, CHIE, CO+I, and other Supply Chain functions. Your team is responsible for delivering high quality, accurate, and stable rack demand plans for standard compute and storage hardware. Your team works within a horizon of 24 (eventually 36) months incorporating statistical model forecasts, decommission plans, hardware and software roadmaps (including planned engineering efficiencies), hardware transition plans, and customer migration plans, and drive our demand to enable strategic priorities. Your leadership will enable customer capacity availability, margins, data center health, and positive customer experiences for all businesses, internal and external.

We are looking for a seasoned leader with strong forecasting and capacity/demand planning skills, Data Science skills, deep Cloud Industry experience, Supply Chain expertise, a robust collaborative approach towards problem solving, and people management skills consistent with Microsoft’s Model, Coach, Care leadership values.

  • Build, coach, and develop a high performing team of technical program management and demand planning professionals
  • Identify and drive progress towards team Objectives and Key Results
  • Lead generation of unconstrained and constrained short-term and mid-term hardware and capex demand plans leveraging statistical modeling, decommission plans, product-lifecycle plans (new product introductions, end-of-life), migration plans, data center constraints, supply availability, and capex targets
  • Develop technical insights into the product, customer value, COGS, and margin drivers to support well-balanced data-driven decisions for the business
  • Optimize the demand plan for supply availability, business growth, and cost; provide clear demand plan to all downstream partners
  • Lead cross-functional discussions with EG(s), Finance, and Hardware Engineering on 24-month capacity plan, collaboratively identify risks and opportunities; support CVP-level decision-making via monthly interlocks and Integrated Business Planning (IBP) cadence
  • Serve as focal point with EGs for all capacity topics
  • Identify business transformation opportunities to drive accuracy, capex optimization velocity, reduce cycle time and increase predictability
  • Identify macro / micro industry trends affecting demand and bake them into planning process
  • Bring thought leadership to help management build and execute vision, inspire team members to do their best work, and proactively align with stakeholders
