The Windows Cloud Experiences team is seeking a Software Engineer II who is passionate about exploring new technologies, writing high-quality code, and driving engineering excellence. In this role, you’ll contribute to rapid, iterative releases and have the opportunity to innovate across multiple areas of our product.   • Drive the Future of Remote Work: Join a team at the forefront of delivering seamless, secure, and high-performance remote desktop experiences directly in the browser, empowering users to access Windows desktops and apps from anywhere, on any device.
  • Cloud-Powered Windows Experiences: Contribute to the next generation of cloud-integrated Windows solutions, leveraging Azure and Microsoft 365 to enable scalable, resilient, and enterprise-grade remote desktop services.
  • Cutting-Edge Technologies: Work with a modern tech stack including C++, C# .net, JavaScript/TypeScript, FAST and React, while developing deep expertise in developing scalable native client applications for Windows.
  • End-to-End Product Ownership: Collaborate across architecture, development, deployment, and Live Site operations, ensuring robust telemetry, proactive monitoring, and rapid incident response for a global user base.
  • Agile and Impactful Delivery: Operate in a fast-paced, iterative environment with short release cycles, where innovation and customer impact are prioritized, and every engineer has the opportunity to shape product direction.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience as a software engineer designing, implementing, and shipping cloud services or software products.
  • 2+ years OOP (object-oriented) development experience with proficiency in at least one of OOP languages: C++/C#/Java.

Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to COM, WinRT, NT Services, and Windows OS development is a plus.
  • Expertise in modern C++ and/or C# .net.
  • Expertise in modern web frameworks like React or Microsoft FAST.
  • Experience with live site engineering, telemetry, and collaboration across multiple components and teams.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers, Product Managers, and designers to deliver seamless, secure, and high-performance remote desktop experiences for the Windows platform.
  • Influence product direction by contributing to strategy, engineering standards, and best practices that drive innovation and reliability.
  • Design and develop secure, distributed, scalable, and resilient native remote desktop client applications using modern technologies.
  • Own the full software development lifecycle, from architecture and implementation to deployment and Live Site operations.
  • Embrace agile practices and a DevOps mindset, focusing on rapid iteration, telemetry-driven development, and proactive monitoring.
  • Prototype and validate new features quickly, using customer feedback and telemetry to guide improvements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to Windows OS integration and client-side functionalities.
