Overview

The Microsoft Silicon Engineering Solutions and Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) team is responsible for developing and delivering the hardware and firmware that is responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide.

Azure Hardware Key Management Service (HKMS) team is part of the SWFW COE (Software and Firmware Center of Excellence) team under SCHIE. HKMS team works closely with Microsoft product groups, industry partners and researchers to architect and develop server hardware solutions that meet the requirements for our cloud services platforms at the lowest possible cost of ownership.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team. In HKMS team, you will design and develop high scalable, reliable and world class manageable cloud-based services to harvest, issue, and authenticate hardware identities of root-of-trust devices for datacenter cloud servers, to track device lifecycle and enable FW security features, and improve reliability and security of cloud server hardware during the entire lifecycle. You will also work closely with Microsoft partner suppliers for onboarding Microsoft HW certificate manufacture provisioning process.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, .Net framework, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience in designing and developing cloud-based services or microservices.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of professional experience in designing, developing, or maintaining software solutions.
  • Solid knowledge and hands on experience of C#, .Net framework OR Java OR C++.
  • Proficient problem solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills
  • Working knowledge in software security, digital asset security, cryptography, X509 certificate and digital signing
  • Web API services infrastructure (HTTP, HTTP/2, RESTful, Swagger), Microservices
  • Familiarity with Azure services like storage, networking, Service Fabric, Cosmos DB, Event Hubs is a plus

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for design, implementation, support, testing, and DevOps of global and regional microservices, control plane services and client tools.
  • Join Take on-call (DRI) rotations, participate in Live-Site activities pertaining to compliance, security, availability, and customer issue intake processes.
  • Define and measure service level indicators and lead the design of process and technology solutions that enable measurable performance against SLIs and KPIs.
  • Bring software engineering habits and produce high quality code that is unit tested, code reviewed and checked in regularly for continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD).
  • Work closely with Microsoft major Cloud Server hardware supplier for onboarding and maintenance of manufacture certificate provisioning process.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to more members of the team.
