Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Azure OneDeploy team, you will be at the forefront of building and maintaining the deployment and repair orchestration systems that power Microsoft’s global cloud infrastructure. Azure OneDeploy is a critical component of Azure Compute, which, along with Storage and Networking, forms the foundation of the Modern Microsoft Cloud. Your work will directly impact the reliability and scalability of services running on millions of virtual machines across the globe.

This role involves designing and implementing systems that ensure safe, efficient, and highly available deployments for both customer-facing and internal services. You will collaborate with teams across Microsoft, including those behind services like Azure SQL Database, Azure Cosmos DB, HDInsight, and IndexServer. Your contributions will enable rapid innovation and continuous delivery while maintaining strict availability guarantees for customers.

The work you do will have a multiplier effect across Microsoft, as it supports core infrastructure teams such as Compute, Cloud Networking, and Storage. By delivering smart, resilient, and scalable deployment solutions, you will help unlock the full potential of Microsoft’s cloud offerings and empower other teams to build and iterate faster on a stable foundation.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to Java, C/C++, C#, Python, JavaScript, PowerShell
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year(s) experience in developing, debugging and maintaining code in object-oriented languages and database querying languages.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
    • OR related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, OR Python
    • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to,Java, C/C++, C#, Python, JavaScript, PowerShell
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year(s) experience running and working on services at scale
  • 1+ year(s) demonstrated proficiency in coding, debugging, designing algorithms, and solving complex technical challenges.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities

• Change management at all layers (infra/customer, public/private) in a coherent way from standpoint of safety, staging and impact.
• Orchestrate change management (code, data, config) with changes in dependencies, repairs, scale/up down and other activities at all layers of the virtualization stack.
• Collect and reason about health of targets across the Azure Stack.
• Deliver great change management velocity.
• Orchestrate change in co-ordination with customer preferences.
• Deliver awesome customer value in managing their deployments on Azure such that they find Azure is the easiest and safest places to run cloud first services as well as traditional enterprise IT.
• Enable experimentation, flighting and testing in production.
The position requires the expertise of distributed system design, large scale service coding capability and service analytics.
