We are looking to hire a Software Engineer II with data platform/data engineering experience that will join our mission of protecting Microsoft Cloud by building and operating security services that will enforce security policies across thousands of services. In this role, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of security at Microsoft and leveraging your insights to protect Microsoft services and customers. Your primary focus will be on designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and systems to support various business needs and objectives.

This hybrid position is located at our Microsoft office in Redmond, Washington.

  • Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates will need to relocate or reside within 50 miles of the field location.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience with data pipelining and transformation technologies such as Spark and experience on Azure Data tech stack
  • 2+ years hands-on experience with big data technologies as well as data analytics tools Experience with cyber security practices such as identity and access management (IAM), authentication and authorization systems.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years' experience working in cyber security.
  • Experience with Identity and Access Management experience, especially authentication/authorization systems similar to Entra Experience with Graph database technology, especially Neo4j.
  • Familiarity with Generative AI (GenAI) and Large Language Models (LLMs).

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.

Responsibilities

As a Software Engineer II, you will:

  • Collaborate with various teams to gather and integrate data from various sources to support the data needs for security attack graph.
  • Build scalable data models and data pipelines to extract, load and transform data, ensures secure data storage, with focus on data quality and compliance.
  • Implement data validation and quality assurance processes to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the data.
  • Provide the required data with the aim to support the extension of security attack graph tooling to drive analysis and eviction of attackers.
  • Collaborate with other team members to provide analysis of large data sets to determine security risk for Microsoft.
  • Understand Microsoft security and privacy guidelines and bring the system in compliance.
  • Take an AI-first approach in building these data systems.
