The Accounting Operations team is a global function that supports the company’s fiscal close process. The team provides transactional accounting support, statutory controllership, fiscal advisory, BPO governance and reporting, while also integrating acquired entities and steering strategic finance projects and initiatives.

We are seeking to fill the newly created role of Director, Global Accounting Operations role within Accounting Operations. This crucial position will manage and oversee all aspects of service delivery engagement, scope definition, growth and transformation identification in partnership with customer stakeholder groups based in Redmond.

The Director, Global Accounting Operations is a key member of the Accounting Operations Leadership Team (FinOps) at Microsoft. This role is responsible for managing a diverse and high-performing team of accounting professionals located across multiple geographies. The Lead plays a strategic role in advancing global service delivery, driving transformation initiatives and embedding best-in-class practices throughout financial operations. By shaping and executing the global accounting vision, the incumbent ensures close alignment with Microsoft’s core values and business objectives.

Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Operations, Finance, or related field AND 8+ years experience in accounting operations, financial management, or related disciplines within a global organization
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years management (e.g., people, project, process, vendor, change) experience.
Additional or preferred qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Business, Operations, Finance, or related field AND 12+ years experience program management, process management, or process improvement OR Bachelor's Degree in Business, Operations, Finance, or related field
    • AND 15+ years experience in program management , process management, or process improvement
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Hold a professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CPA) or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years people management experience.
  • 12+ Years experience in multinational with multi-product/multi-segment finance roles.
  • Deep knowledge of accounting principles, ERP systems, and compliance frameworks.
  • Expert in BPO operations and global service delivery models, with proven ability to manage complex vendor and FTE structures across regions to ensure scalable, compliant and high-performing finance execution.
  • Demonstrate expertise in leading large-scale finance transformation initiatives focused on AI adoption and change management, driving innovation, operational efficiency, and enterprise-wide strategic impact across global processes..
  • Expertise in global statutory reporting, fiscal close processes and integration of acquired entities.
  • Lean or Six Sigma qualification proficiency.

Business Program Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $277,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $303,600 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Global Team Leadership: Lead and inspire geographically distributed teams by fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration and continuous learning while driving accountability, engagement and operational accuracy through inclusive leadership and clear communication.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build trusted relationships with business leaders, proactively aligning finance operations with evolving business priorities. Influence decision-making through data-driven insights and executive-level communication.
  • Shape and manage strategic partnerships with business units to ensure accounting operations deliver measurable value, enable growth, and align with strategic priorities.
  • Own P&L accountability with deep expertise in cost drivers, measurement and target setting, applying analytical judgment to optimize financial performance and guide strategic decision-making.
  • Drive high-impact finance initiatives such as US GAAP close, statutory reporting, business model innovation and post-acquisition integration ensuring strategic alignment, operational excellence and timely execution across global entities.
  • Champion the adoption of AI and automation in finance operations. Lead change management efforts to enhance accuracy, compliance and efficiency.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner across Finance, Engineering, Cloud Business Unit to deliver scalable solutions. Manage complex projects and influence outcomes in a matrixed environment.
  • Build and showcase modern finance capabilities. Define and track metrics aligned to organizational priorities and transformation goals.
