Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Our mission is to build the data platform for the age of AI, powering a new class of data-first applications and driving a data culture.
Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.
The engineering systems team in Azure SQL owns the technologies and services that enable the entire organization to do product and service development and engineering with high quality and efficiency. The team builds and runs code movement pipelines, intelligent validation services, and scalable test environments so that the organization can deliver features and values for Azure SQL customers. We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to work on these areas and further modernize the technologies and services to deliver new capabilities of Azure SQL.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications

• This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
• Seven years of development experience of commercial software products or services.
• Prior experience of engineering systems is preferred.
• Prior knowledge and experience in Azure SQL Database or SQL Server is preferred.
• Prior experience of developing and running cloud services is preferred.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.

Responsibilities
Own specific areas, technologies, or services in engineering systems.
- Develop long term strategy and short-term execution plans for the modernization and enhancement of the areas to meet engineering needs.
- Design and implement new features based on the needs of internal customers.
- Collaborate with other teams or team members to solve common problems or deliver common objectives.
- Mentor junior engineers or team members in design, implementation, and quality assurance areas.
- Participating in live site on call rotations for the services.
