Microsoft Cloud Operations and Infrastructure (CO+I) is the team behind the cloud. CO+I is responsible for delivering Microsoft web portals, Live and Online Services around the world including infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability.
Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide. We are looking for a Senior Director of Global Data Center Engineering Strategy to help build future generations of the network that powers the world’s largest online services. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of Microsoft’s data center designs and strategies.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in data center design, construction, and operations, along with a proven ability to turn strategic vision into actionable outcomes. Responsibilities include developing strategic vision for data center infrastructure that prioritize safety-in-design, availability, scalability, fungibility, and cost efficiency. The individual will collaborate closely with upstream stakeholders and partner teams to refine design requirements and lead the CO+I Building Information Modeling (BIM) and LEED programs, driving innovative solutions that align with Microsoft’s sustainability goals.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
- 3+ years' people management experience.
- 6+ years' experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
- Accredited Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Architecture.
- Registered Professional Engineer or Architect.
- Comprehensive technical understanding of mission critical environments.
- Experience successfully leading teams of subject matter experts, engineers and architects in advanced engineering and operational processes and procedures as they relate to large data center environments.
- 8+ years’ experience in mission critical projects (data centers, laboratories and/or micro-electronics projects or similar).
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
- Experience using MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project, Visio, and Excel for the development and effective reporting/presentations of project information.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree AND 15+ years experience engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
- 6+ years' people management experience.
- 10+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
- Ability to perform complex business case analysis to justify technical decisions.
- Demonstrated knowledge of building codes and regulations.
- Experience in development of projects internationally.
- Licensed professional in area of subject matter expertise.
- LEED Registered Professional.
Technical Program Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $163,000 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.

Responsibilities
- Lead a team of discipline-specific Subject Matter Experts.
- Develop new innovations in data center topologies.
- Present and socialize new concepts across partner teams at the company.
- Work directly with GDCE Technical Governance team providing inputs into new Basis of Design documentation (BoDs) providing documentation for BoD update through Global POR Change Management process.
