Within Azure Data, the big data analytics team provides a range of products that enable data engineers and data scientists to extract intelligence from all data – structured, semi-structured, and unstructured. We build the Data Engineering, Data Science, and Data Integration pillars of Microsoft Fabric.
The Fabric Data Engineering Experience & amp; Infrastructure team is looking for a passionate Software Engineer to help shape the future of data engineering. In this role, you’ll help build services that push the boundaries of what’s possible. You’ll work at the forefront of enabling users to design, build, and maintain data engineering infrastructure and systems that allow organizations to collect, store, process, and analyze massive volumes of data.

Responsibilities
- Work closely with a passionate team of engineers to deliver impactful solutions that drive customer success.
- Design, implement, test, ship, and support large-scale services and components that power Fabric Data Engineering experiences, with industry leading quality, performance, scalability, reliability, and security.
- Collaborate with Product Management to validate specifications and align on customer and business needs.
- Apply a growth mindset to tackle complex technical problems and deliver innovative, high-quality solutions.
- Contribute to a team culture centered on learning, continuous improvement, engineering excellence, and high-quality execution.
- Support live site operations, ensuring service health, availability, and rapid mitigation of issues.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
Other Job Requirements:
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1+ years of professional software engineering experience (including internships)
- Experience building backend services using C#, Java, Go, or similar object oriented languages
- Fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and object oriented design
- Experience writing clean, maintainable, well tested code
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs, service to service communication, and basic cloud concepts
- Experience with source control, CI/CD pipelines, and debugging production issues
- Experience designing and operating large-scale infrastructure for data platforms or compute services (e.g., job orchestration, runtime services, cluster/resource management, multi-tenant systems).
- Experience with observability and operational excellence (SLOs/SLIs, alerting, incident response, postmortems).
- Performance and reliability engineering experience (profiling, optimization, capacity planning, cost/performance tradeoffs).
- Experience building and shipping production infrastructure (backend services, distributed systems, or platform components) in a cloud environment.
- Good understanding of distributed systems concepts: fault tolerance, scaling, scheduling, and resource management.

Software Engineering IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across Canada is CAD $67,100 - CAD $131,400 per year.
