POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Executive Director (ED) the Regional Business Development Specialist will deliver against expectations for business development outcomes within their designated province(s). The Specialist will cultivate and engage local industry organizations, community groups, innovator hubs and entrepreneurs to generate valuable outcomes and resources for the Alberta operations. In part, this role focuses on creating new partnerships, strengthening existing relationships, and securing financial support through sponsorships, events, grants, and major gifts.

The successful candidate will also focus on cultivating and advancing employer relationshipsgaining successes with small and medium- sized enterprises (SMEs) in particular - developing partnerships and delivering participant employment outcomes through the fulfillment of the employer’s hiring needs. This critical deliverable results in secured leads that are effectively converted into tangible employment outcomes for the assigned region’s participants and graduates.

The role additionally works cross-functionally with internal teams and external stakeholders to drive results in recruitment, retention, and regional growth that achieves employment outcome success.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter and performance -driven individual who is comfortable working with stakeholders and prospects’ targets that align with the strategic business development plan.

Type of position : Full-time, 12 months contract with the possibility of extension based on funding.

**The incumbent is required to be an active resident of Calgary**

Key Accountabilities

Partnership Cultivation and Development

  • Identify, qualify, and engage potential partners that result in secured new revenue opportunities aligning with NPower Canada's mission national strategy and equity goals, as well as long-term sustainability.

  • Under direction of ED, develop and maintain partnerships with regional decision makers within funders, including private corporations, community organizations, public agencies, donors, networks, and other relevant players in the ecosystem to secure resources that support program delivery and participant success.

  • Build and strengthen partnerships with SMEs to expand engagement, identify hiring opportunities, and support long-term collaboration.

  • Build, deepen, and maintain long-term relationships with regional employers to create a sustainable employment ecosystem of reciprocal benefit to local communities, businesses, and industries.

  • Partner with appropriate employer contacts to identify workforce needs, co-develop recruitment strategies, and ensure alignment with NPC’s programs, promoting NPC’s value proposition for talent acquisition and diversity initiatives. This includes collaborating with employer partners to identify, secure, and execute hiring events, job fairs, and employment-related initiatives that support objectives for regional outcomes.

  • Implement sales techniques to identify opportunities within the hidden job market, positioning NPower Canada's solutions to current and prospective employers by underscoring the benefits of recruiting from a diverse talent pool.

  • Liaise with NPC’s national business development team regarding labour market insights, national partnership opportunities and sector relevant information to ensure consistent value propositioning, effectiveness in management of accounts and overall alignment.

  • Negotiate and manage partnership agreements that deliver mutual value while striving to meet or exceed performance objectives in essential metrics.

Continuous Regional Advancement

  • Coordinate with Executive Director on local strategies to reflect market factors, labour market trends and employer demands, and assist Executive Director in the upkeep of the relevant business development plan

  • Support Executive Director in adapting strategies to local market needs, challenges, and opportunities. Develop modular strategies that support the ED in tailoring their approaches to regional factors, i.e. economic, political landscapes, labour market trends and employer demands.

  • Support and collaborate with external stakeholders and partners to gain local Industry and labour market insights.

  • Deliver compelling presentations as needed and represent NPC at networking events, community forums, NPC’s regional industry councils, for visibility and advisement.

  • Ensure client satisfaction through proactive communication and problem-solving.

  • Support the fostering of collaboration and coordination across teams and regions to enhance impact and efficiency.

  • Undertake special projects as assigned by the Executive Director.

Data Administration and Reporting

  • Track industry trends, competitor activity, critical market insights, and new opportunities.

  • Report on status, partnerships, and outcomes and actionable recommendations to Executive Director.

  • Monitor and assess partnerships to ensure alignment with NPower Canada's strategic priorities. Use KPI performance to track the effectiveness of activities and outcomes, and to help drive financial decisions and improve sustainability.

  • Record and maintain accurate documentation and information in Salesforce and other documents.

  • Tracking the conversion of prospective employers into making their first hire.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong knowledge and capability relevant to Business, Sales and Marketing, Fund Development, Job Development, or a related field.

  • 2-3 years in business development, fund development, employer engagement, recruitment, or client relationship management, preferably in a nonprofit or workforce development setting.

  • Proven ability to engage and influence senior leaders across sectors, and in promoting business ideas.

  • Flexibility, adaptability, excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity.

  • Demonstrated success in achieving recruitment or revenue-generation targets.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, networking, and negotiation, with the ability to communicate information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Comfortable with lead generation, cold calling, applying principles of the sales process presentations, and research.

  • Excellent networking, negotiation, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong data literacy with experience in using analytics to inform strategies.

  • Experience with LinkedIn, CRM systems (Salesforce), and other business development tools.

  • Understanding of the local labour market and employment trends. Experience in using analytics to inform strategies.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office platform, including Outlook, SharePoint, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French is an asset.
