The Kubernetes Admin will join a team which leads the delivery of the products and platforms that enable OMERS Global Investments (GI) to analyze opportunities, action investment decisions and optimize the OMERS investment portfolio. The Investment Products and Services team works across investment teams including Capital Markets, Infrastructure, Private Equity, Growth Equity and Ventures, and in close collaboration with Finance, Risk & Compliance teams.

As a key member of the Investment Products and Services team, the Kubernetes Admin is instrumental in improving hosting & monitoring capabilities by championing industry best practices and delivering reliable automation processes to support investment solutions.

The Kubernetes Admin will maintain container orchestration systems, automate monitoring processes and cultivate a business relationship that assists in meeting business demands. The individual must also support and collaborate with application developers, data engineers, data analysts and investment professionals and engage in technical support, research and integration as part of 1 or more product team(s).

As a member of this team, you will be responsible for:

Technical

  • Maintaining and supporting solutions in container orchestration for existing and new services.
  • Writing robust and reliable code to ensure consistent monitoring and promptly addressing any possible problems.
  • Collaborating with Software Engineering and Operations teams to improve automation of recovery, scaling, code testing and alerting.
  • Assisting in migrating legacy applications to containerization, including its monitoring and automation.
  • Brainstorming new products, updates and solutions to continuously challenge and optimise products, performance, system/data backup, security and overall customer experience.
  • Remaining up-to-date on industry trends, sharing knowledge among teams and abiding by industry best practices for containerization, observability and automation.

Organizational

  • Operating in an Agile development environment.
  • Communicating effectively with other engineers and various other partners such as product managers, application developers, business analysts, IT infrastructure specialists, security specialists, enterprise architects and members of senior management.
  • Working with cross-functional teams to understand the impact of any changes on the technology infrastructure and ensure that the necessary steps are taken to minimize disruption.
  • Exhibiting the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and ensuring highly available and efficient IT infrastructure.
  • Ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Managing and scaling technology infrastructure and ensuring that systems are running smoothly and securely.

Qualifications:

Professional

  • Experience. 5+ years solving sophisticated technical problems using public cloud infrastructure. Microsoft Azure is preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific or engineering field of study or equivalent work experience.
  • Kubernetes Administrator certification will be considered an asset.
  • Industry Knowledge of best practices. Previous experience in developing and deploying operational procedures in the fields of automation, security, monitoring and support.
  • Relationship Building. Consistent track record of building deep technical relationships. Experience in aligning expectations across various partners.
  • Work Ethics. Demonstrated ability to comply and maintain a healthy work culture within the organization.
  • Problem-Solving. The skill to trace performance, connectivity or deployment failures and resolve technical issues.
  • Teamwork. Motivated and keen to work in a collaborative environment with a focus on team success.

Technical

  • Enterprise-scale technical experience with cloud and hybrid infrastructures, architecture designs, and technology management.
  • Experience with understanding and monitoring Kubernetes clusters.
  • Breadth of technical experience and knowledge across the Azure public cloud, with depth / Subject Matter Expertise in two or more of the following services:
    • Azure DevOps Git or GitHub Enterprise
    • Azure DevOps pipelines and releases or GitHub actions
    • Azure IaaS
    • Azure Application Insights and Azure Monitoring
  • Experience with the Azure Kubernetes Services is preferred.
  • Experience with Linux and Windows system administration.
  • Experience with Python, Shell or other scripting language.
  • Experience with networking and security in Azure.
