Software Developer (Platform Engineering)
Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan
The Opportunity
As a Software Developer (Platform Engineering), you will design, build, and support internal platforms, tooling, and automation that enable development teams at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan to deliver software securely, reliably, and at scale.
This role is suited for an experienced software developer who enjoys improving developer workflows, building shared services, and applying modern cloud-native and Infrastructure as Code practices.
You’ll work on impactful initiatives supporting our Investments division while helping evolve our engineering platforms and standards.
This role is software development–led. While you will work closely with cloud platforms, CI/CD, and infrastructure, the focus is on building software, platforms, and automation, not on production operations, 24/7 on-call rotations, or site reliability ownership.
Our Flexible Travel Program also gives you the option to work abroad for a month in another region or country — the choice is yours.
Who You’ll Work With
You’ll be part of the Platform Engineering Team within the Technology Services Division, working in a cross-functional team that builds and supports developer platforms, delivery pipelines, and analytics solutions for front-office teams in the Investments division.
You’ll collaborate closely with application developers, platform engineers, security partners, and product stakeholders.
What You’ll Do
Design and build software platforms and developer-facing services, treating infrastructure and delivery workflows as code
Develop and maintain internal products and shared services used by multiple development teams
Improve developer productivity and delivery reliability through code, automation, and well-designed APIs
Enable repeatable, scalable application delivery across environments using modern engineering practices
Apply Infrastructure as Code and cloud-native patterns to support application deployment and lifecycle management
Integrate security, quality, and compliance controls into software delivery workflows
Partner with development teams to improve build, test, deployment, and runtime experiences
Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical design
Continuously evaluate and adopt improvements to developer experience, tooling, and engineering standards
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers where appropriate
This role does not have primary responsibility for production incident management or site reliability ownership, though you will collaborate with those teams as part of a shared delivery ecosystem.
What You’ll Need
Required
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
Minimum 5 years of professional software development experience
Strong experience as a hands-on software developer, not solely operations-focused
Demonstrated experience designing and maintaining production-quality software systems, with an emphasis on clean APIs, testing, and long-term maintainability
Proficiency in backend development, including Python
Working knowledge of modern UI frameworks, such as React
Experience working with databases and data platforms, including Snowflake
Strong experience with Git-based version control and collaborative development workflows
The following technical experience is required:
Hands-on experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions
Practical experience working with Microsoft Azure in a production environment
Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
Experience deploying, operating, and troubleshooting applications on Kubernetes
Experience applying modern cloud-native delivery practices across environments
Hands-on experience building user interfaces with React
Hands-on experience developing and debugging Python services and/or scripts
Experience using Redis in an application (e.g., caching, sessions, queues)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Nice to Have
Experience with GitOps-based deployment models (e.g., ArgoCD)
Experience integrating security controls into build and deployment pipelines
Familiarity with observability and monitoring practices
Experience with data analytics or data engineering workflows
Experience working in Agile or product-oriented teams
Exposure to service-oriented or event-driven architectures
-
Experience using AI and data tooling in the Azure ecosystem, such as:
Azure AI Foundry
Databricks
Advanced Snowflake capabilities (e.g., Snowpark, ML, or integrations)
Who This Role Is For
Senior software developers who enjoy building internal platforms and tooling
Engineers who want to work close to cloud and infrastructure through software
Developers interested in DevX and DevSecOps without moving into a pure SRE role
Why This Role
Opportunity to influence and scale developer experience across teams
Hands-on work with modern cloud-native, DevX, and platform engineering practices
Strong balance of software development and cross-team impact
Work that directly supports investment decision-making
Flexible work model and global mobility options
