What is the opportunity?

Work within the group at the Royal Bank of Canada responsible for overseeing the critical operation of the Enterprise Data Centres; specifically, to gain experience with the complex mechanical and electrical engineering systems that are integral to the successful operation of the Data Centres with optimal ‘uptime’.

What will you do?

• Responsible for the operation of building systems, including high voltage electrical, UPS, emergency generator, HVAC and fire detection/suppression systems that interface with mission critical computer and auxiliary support systems.
• Performing maintenance and/or providing technical oversight on various building systems including fire/life safety, plumbing, HVAC and electrical remaining current with latest standards/requirements.
• Response to emergency situations including but not limited to fire, evacuation, and equipment failure.
• Investigation of operational and technical anomalies to determine root-cause and assist in developing solutions for future mitigation
• Monitor and analyze data collected from the various critical systems, identifying opportunities for optimization and improved resiliency.
• Assist with the design and optimization of the mechanical and electrical engineering systems.
• Extract, analyze data from Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) tool and generate reports
• Develop relationship and maintain strong communications with internal business partners and external service providers.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

• In depth understanding of Electrical and Mechanical systems
• Strong communication skills
• Strong engineering and analytical skills
• Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including SharePoint, Word and Excel
• Strong work ethic
• Ability to work without direct supervision

Nice-to-have

• Previous experience in a Data Centre environment
• Previous experience working with complex mechanical engineering systems, including Cooling Plant, or complex electrical engineering systems, including electrical Generation Plants
• Experience with DCIM software
• Excel macro knowledge
