What is the opportunity?
The purpose of this job is to support the development and implementation of RBC’s processes for measuring, managing, and monitoring ESG risk. The Associate Director will be a member of the ESG Risk Engagement & Oversight Team within Enterprise Risk.
This is a new and evolving focus area, providing the opportunity to support the development of innovative approaches to address complex problems.
What will you do?
- Work with the Director, ESG Risk Engagement & Oversight on a variety of internal 2LOD projects (e.g., sustainable finance, transition plan assessments, new metric development, etc.)
- Lead new research to identify and manage emerging areas of ESG risk
- Provide climate, energy transition, and decarbonisation subject matter expertise when reviewing credit transactions and advising business teams
- Support the data analysis and data visualization needs of the team
- Support the preparation of internal management reports and presentations for the Board of Directors, Group Executive, GRM senior management, and others.
- Support the development and review of external disclosures (e.g., Annual Report, ESG Report, shareholder requests, rating agency data requests, etc.) in an accurate, consistent, complete and timely manner
- Support the development and implementation of a process to integrate environmental, climate, and social risk into our existing risk management framework, including in relation to establishing an approach to understanding the impact of these risks on credit risk.
What do you need to succeed?
Must Haves
- An interest in ESG Risk in general and climate change in particular
- 5+ years of work experience
- An ability to lead and collaborate while managing competing tasks and complex subject matter
- An ability to research, process, and digest large volumes of written information and synthesize into the salient points for potential action
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Commitment to quality and accuracy with a high level of attention to detail
Nice to Have
- Graduate degree in a sustainability-related discipline
- Data analysis and data visualization skills
- Knowledge or familiarity with the climate risk and/or target setting guidance issued by PCAF, NZBA, TCFD, ISSB, and/or OSFI (B-15)
- Experience with, or knowledge of, decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors (e.g., agriculture; aluminum; cement; coal; commercial and residential real estate; iron and steel; oil and gas; power generation; and transportation)
- Knowledge of bank processes and procedures, particularly relating to credit assessment, adjudication and monitoring and familiarity with development of policies and frameworks
- Experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders and comfort dealing with senior executives
