What is the opportunity?

As a Business Data Analyst within RBC Investor Services you will work closely with the business and technology on data projects with focus on value proposition, clear articulation of the benefits and elicitation of functional/non-functional requirements. Data discovery, mapping, data analysis, creating wire frames, documentation, communication, stakeholder engagement, coordination with Project Manager and Data Engineering teams before and during project delivery will be the key to success for this role.

You will provide business, functional and data analysis expertise and manage stakeholder engagement with various initiatives of the Data Engineering team within Investor Services in line with corporate vision, for both projects and BAU initiatives involving data. We are looking for a functional expert and a passionate data management enthusiast with ability to support the leadership team by collaborating with stakeholders, clients, data engineers and system owners to drive delivery of the various data transformation initiatives.

As a member of a dynamic, fast paced team, this role brings strong data analysis skills, effective written and verbal communication skills, a strong work ethic and a demonstrated capability to multi-task effectively. This role requires strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills as well as a demonstrated sense of urgency to respond to changing priorities at times. This is complemented by a positive attitude and a willingness to take accountability for results achieved.

What will you do?

  • Work on complex data initiatives within RBC Investor Services that involve definition of the problem statement, determination of value proposition, Business case preparation and stakeholder engagement.

  • Work closely with business partners/stakeholders on strategic initiatives to define scope; perform scope elaboration, make recommendations; collect, interpret and analyze functional and non-functional requirements.

  • Data discovery and analysis of core data products within key RBC Investor Services applications and data stores/lakes.

  • Coordinate with domain experts, scrum masters and PMs on gathering detail requirements and document requirements/ functional/non-functional specifications, perform data mapping and data analysis, create wire frames according to existing standards and methodologies.

  • Closely work with developers to ensure articulation of business requirements; ensuring strategic alignment between Data Management Office and business functions.

  • Work with business stakeholders during project execution, prepare detailed test plans co-ordinate user involvement and UAT sign off activities.

  • Have a design thinking mindset for understanding and solving problems.

  • Work closely and collaboratively with Business and technology stakeholders.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • 5+ years of experience in the financial services industry, and working with financial products such as: Equities, Fixed Income, Foreign Exchange, and related Derivatives products

  • Strong understanding of the data lifecycle, data quality concepts and PL/SQL knowledge.

  • Experience using business analysis and requirements modelling tools, such as: data flow diagrams, relational data models, business process modelling.

  • Experience gathering requirements and analyzing custodial and/or financial data.

  • Good Communication skills with experience presenting to executives, large audiences and conducting facilitation sessions.

  • In depth knowledge in data governance/stewardship with working knowledge of defining data quality requirements

  • Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) degree, or similar experience

Nice to Have

  • Agile Delivery practices including SAFe, Project Management qualification, e.g. PMP, Business Analysis Certification, e.g. CBAP.

  • Experience with tools like Power BI.

  • Experience with agile tools like Jira, Confluence, etc.

  • Experience on large scale Data lakes, Data warehouses, Cloud Solutions.

  • Prior experience working with GDPR regulations and Data policies & practices.
