What is the opportunity?
Reporting to the Senior Director, Business Risk and Governance, the employee will support the Cards and Loyalty group with respect to network requirements, as well as Enterprise Payments and Solutions Acceleration & Innovation. This role ensures that the group’s products comply with network partners’ mandated rules, operating regulations, and contractual commitments. You will be responsible for scoping, evaluating and provision of advice/support as it relates to our evolving payment network needs and the intersection and impact of new network strategic drivers and mandates on the Cards Payment and Banking business, lobbying where appropriate with networks.
What will you do?
Network Rules management, including regular rules meetings (VISA and Mastercard), Advisory Committees (Interac), exceptions management, waiver oversight, negotiations, and ongoing maintenance of waiver and associated conditions.
Architect and manage RBC's relationship with Interac on behalf of Everyday Banking, Product Team.
Lobbying/negotiating with networks in consultation and variance processes.
Contract subject matter expert for VISA, Mastercard and Interac Master Services Agreements.
Lead for cross-functional initiatives stemming from network mandates and/or internal risk considerations
Provide advice and support to business, RBC Law Group or others in respect of interchange matters.
Supplier management activities for VISA and Mastercard (SMRA, SOC 1s, PIAs, etc).
Sponsor representative for formal projects necessitated by network changes or mandates.
Provide advice and support to project teams with network element or considerations. Support Moneris in relevant network matters.
Provide advice and support to business in respect of Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI) issues, changes and queries.
Provide ongoing coaching and development opportunities to direct reports.
What do you need to succeed?
Must have:
LLB or MBA
Superior knowledge of payments ecosystem and RBC products specific to Cards Payments and Banking.
Understanding of operational flows, controls, and connections (i.e. networks, TSYS, internal, other suppliers).
Strong legal and business judgment.
Strong compliance focus.
Strong understanding of contract terms and negotiation processes.
Strong understanding of the regulatory framework for payments and the intersection with network rules.
Excellent analytical mindset and keen ability to execute quality documentation requirements based on advanced knowledge and experience of the Cards business.
Ability to think strategically.
Strong leadership, facilitation, negotiation, and communication skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong problem solving skills – Accurately defines problems and identifies relevant factors. Objectively considers alternatives and anticipates impact of possible solutions.
Supplier and relationship management competencies.
High level of initiative and motivation.
Technologically self-sufficient –Excel, Word, Power Point, VISA Online, Mastercard Connect.
