What is the opportunity?
This position is responsible for using actuarial knowledge with respect to product profitability management, reinsurance strategy, and assist with managing all reinsurance treaties for RBC Insurance. This position will collaborate closely with the team colleagues and other key stakeholders to build, maintain, and sustain profitability monitoring metrics, as well as reinsurance analytics. The management of all reinsurance treaties will be evolving as RBC Insurance’s reinsurance strategy unfolds.
This position will also provide actuarial expertise and support for all treaties associated with the reinsurance portfolio, including but not limited to support on, possible recaptures, development of automation opportunities, and profitability monitoring reporting initiatives.
What will you do?
•Provide actuarial expertise with analysis regarding effectiveness of reinsurance treaties on the overall profitability by product, support colleague with end-to-end profitability monitoring of all RBC Insurance products.
•Assist with any ad-hoc tasks that may arise with work related to, but not limited to, Board of Directors and regulatory reporting, various other product related working groups, etc.
Support reinsurance strategy:
•Manage the monthly process to ensure accurate and timely analytics from the Reinsurance Dashboard, working with Tableau
•Prepare, compile, and summarize various metrics into effective PowerPoint presentations, to effectively deliver on the team’s mandate of Reinsurance Strategy, Treaty Management, and Profitability Monitoring.
•Support colleague with treaty management and treaty data analysis to identify any emerging trends in profitability
•Assist to develop and maintain relationships with cross department teams (incl. underwriting, pricing, claims, finance, legal) and external reinsurers to ensure that all reinsurance treaties are documented and ready for analysis.
What will you need to succeed?
Must have:
•Post secondary degree in business, actuarial science, finance, mathematics, or another relevant field of study
•Minimum 2 years of experience in Insurance and a working knowledge of the industry, insurance products, and related processes
•Direct experience working with actuarial AXIS valuation models is a vital component of this role, along with proficiency in Data Analytics/Visualization tools SQL and Tableau
•Familiarity with actuarial concepts, for example, ceded actuarial liabilities, actual to expected ratios, and general understanding conceptually of the benefits of reinsurance on capital
•Experience in data analytics and ability to summarize reinsurance treaty data by key fields including Cession Count, Reinsurance Premium, Reinsurance Net Amount at Risk, Actuarial Liabilities, etc
•Strong communication and developing leadership skills, with the ability to communicate and present ideas across different levels of management and stakeholders.
Nice to have:
•Some understanding of or experience with reinsurance treaties, processes and systems, with unique skills in developing treaty compliance and analytics
•Experience with scripting languages such as Python, R, etc
