What is the opportunity?

The Senior Manager, Corporate Communications, RBCx will work closely with business leaders, internal partners and agencies to develop, manage and execute on creative PR strategies to build and protect RBCx’s brand profile, credibility and relevance within the dynamic North American tech and innovation ecosystem. This candidate will also be responsible for managing and executing strategic internal communications priorities across the RBCx platform to support leadership communications and enable employee awareness and engagement.

We are looking for an effective storyteller with strong writing skills, experience leading PR campaigns and developing content for social media (i.e. videos, posts, polls), and maintaining strong media relationships to drive market awareness of RBCx’s brand narrative, thought leadership insights and client value propositions, and support the internal awareness of RBCx’s vision, strategic priorities and successes. As part of this mandate, this role will also support external communications priorities for RBCx’s Banking practice, which includes Life Sciences, Clean Tech, Venture Capital Coverage & Early Stage segments.

The successful candidate will work closely with key partners across RBCx’s Banking, Platform, HR, Operations & Strategic Initiatives and People Experience teams. They will also work business and functional partners across Personal and Commercial Banking, Enterprise HR, Brand, Marketing & Corporate Communications (HR-BMCC), Technology & Operations (T&O) and other Enterprise groups to deliver integrated communication programs as needed.

Beyond the technical skills, we’re looking for a curious, creative and proactive self-starter who can adapt to the needs of a dynamic and fast-based business and sector, advise senior leaders, and navigate nuanced stakeholder relationships.

This role reports to the Director, Communications, RBCx.

What will you do?

  • Manage & execute strategic external communications strategies to drive awareness and engagement around marketable RBCx news, insights and thought leadership content, in close partnership with the RBCx Platform team.
  • Predominant focus on driving proactive PR/media relations for the overall RBCx brand and its Banking practice, which includes Life Sciences, Clean Tech, Venture Capital Coverage & Early Stage segments.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with relevant Canadian and US tech, business, and VC segment media.
  • Manage & execute internal communications strategies in collaboration with the RBCx HR, People Experience and Operations & Strategic Initiatives (OSI) teams to drive awareness and alignment around RBCx’s vision, priorities, culture & employee engagement initiatives and success stories.
  • Provide day-to-day communications counsel to business and functional partners to drive adoption of communications best practices & alignment with business priorities.
  • Responsibilities include: proactive media pitching; external agency collaborations; internal & external key message development; spokesperson briefings; executive media training support; blog/article/newsletter/video content development; social media content development; internal employee engagement and leadership messages; Town Halls/All Hands Calls/AMAs; employee communication channel management; media issues management support; monitoring & reporting.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • Undergraduate degree/postgraduate certificate or equivalent in communications, public relations, journalism, English or related field
  • 8+ years of communications experience
  • Experience providing strategic PR communications advice to business leaders and subject matter experts
  • Strong creative and business writing, media relations and social content management experience
  • A fast learner with a natural curiosity, passion and keen eye for identifying PR and other storytelling opportunities
  • Ability to prioritize, manage and execute effectively in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and diverse network of stakeholders
  • Exceptional project management skills, emotional intelligence and attention to detail

Nice-to-have:

  • French bilingualism is a strong asset
  • PR agency and U.S. media experience is a strong asset
  • Knowledge of Canadian and U.S. tech and innovation ecosystem
  • Equal measure of collaborative spirit to operate as part of highly integrated team, while also being able to self-manage and work independently to deliver on day-to-day priorities
