What is the opportunity?
The Director of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) will be a strategic and analytically rigorous individual leading the planning, forecasting, performance management, and decision support for the Commercial Credit business. This leader will serve as a senior trusted advisor to the executive leadership team for Business Credit including the SVP of Commercial Credit, driving financial insights that enable profitable growth, sound credit lending management and thought leadership to influence decision making. Acting as a strategic co-pilot, the role demands deep expertise in commercial lending, credit products, portfolio dynamics as well as the ability to synthesize financial outcomes and insights into actionable strategies. All of which is vital to supporting the business in driving superior long-term bank performance.
What you will do?
- Lead end-to-end Performance Management for the Commercial Credit portfolio, including month-end and quarter-end reporting, forecasting, annual planning and 5-year strategic outlooks
- Acting as a strategic co-pilot, partner with senior business leaders, including the SVP of Commercial credit, to drive actionable insights and strategies, support business case analysis, evaluate product profitability and spreads, client segment performance, client profitability and risk-adjusted return on capital
- Partner with Financial Control and Product Control to ensure financial integrity of reported results and compliance with accounting standards
- Develop financial models to support all volume and revenue modeling including net interest income and net-interest margin
- Develop and maintain robust product profitability models guiding management on the use and interpretation of product profitability and related driver information supporting strategic decisions and capital optimization
- Development and review of business cases, including cross-enterprise initiatives related to Business Credit
- Lead business credit forecasting processes collaborating with Risk, Treasury, Canadian Banking Platform Finance and Head Office Performance Management
- Monitor and explain key business drivers including volumes, spreads, and fees
- Translate financial insights into clear narratives and recommendations for executive-level reporting, board materials, and investor day commitments
- Manage and mentor a team of 2 to 3 high-performing finance professionals
What you need to succeed?
Must Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field (MBA, CFA, or CPA preferred)
- 8+ years of progressive experience in FP&A, Commercial Banking, or Credit Risk, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
- Strong executive presence and ability to provide thought leadership on key decisions and business matters
- Demonstrated experience in people leadership inspiring the team do be the best version of themselves based on a clear vision to support their development and build talent for the future
- Working in a matrix model, execute with a high degree of collaboration with partners and effectively influence stakeholders resulting in a better outcome via strong interpersonal skills and trust
- Ability to manage many competing priorities within tight timelines, navigate through change management and clearly communicate priorities and desired outcomes to their team and partners
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally with business partners, platform and head office performance management, credit risk and treasury
- Demonstrated experience preparing financial content for senior management
- Exceptional financial modeling, data analysis, and communication skills.
- Previous track record working in a financial institution
