What is the opportunity?

As Senior Director – Retail, you will lead the team accountable for the development and oversight of RBC’s retail credit models, with a focus on stress testing and impairment models. This role spearheads the approval process for new and revised models and establishes, executes, and communicates the strategic plan for the full suite of Retail models.

What will you do?

This is a key role in developing the bank’s suite of retail credit risk models for capital, impairments and stress testing and monitoring the on-going performance of the models.

  • Manage a high-performing team accountable to develop and document the retail credit models used across RBC.
  • Develop and articulate strategic options with respect to model design, data sourcing, monitoring methodologies, etc., and make recommendations to senior management.
  • Leverage an organizational network to ensure team leads are able to partner and leverage best practices from outside the group.
  • Develop a technical talent pool with an emphasis on career progression and succession planning within the team. This includes coaching team leads on how to most effectively partner with stakeholders.
  • Lead the identification and activities relating to potential model enhancements, and establish the strategy for off-cycle adjustments.
  • Carry out the mandate with a high degree of independence, thought leadership and a solutions-driven mindset.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Extensive experience (12-15 years) in credit modelling, particularly for impairments and stress testing.
  • Deep experience in fundamentals relating to credit model development and best practices.
  • Significant exposure to senior leaders within an organization.
  • Strong leadership qualities.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Nice-to-have

  • Strong grasp of retail banking products and their credit risk profiles.
  • Deep knowledge of regulatory capital frameworks for Canadian banks.
  • Experience managing a large and high-performing team.
  • Experience in defining and executing strategic planning for model development.
