What is the opportunity?
In this role, you will report to the Head, RBC Origins and oversee the strategic direction and execution of RBC’s Indigenous Banking brand, marketing, and communications efforts. You will establish long-term market positioning, aligning communications with RBC’s Reconciliation Action Plan, enterprise strategy, and RBC Origins’ vision. You will ensure that all internal and external communications reflect RBC’s values, meet business objectives, and are grounded in cultural competence and reconciliation commitments. You will serve as the bridge between the RBC Origins team and enterprise Brand, Marketing and Communications, enabling a cohesive voice across RBC.
What will you do?
Responsible for the indigenization of RBC’s market presence, ensuring all communications and external-facing efforts embody the spirit and intent of reconciliation, human rights, and access to capital as articulated in the Reconciliation Action Plan
Lead cross-functional and enterprise collaboration to impact and influence senior executive stakeholders on the tone, framing, and approach of Indigenous-related content and materials
Maintain strategic relationships with enterprise Brand, Marketing and Communications teams to ensure cohesion, avoid duplication, and ensure integration of Indigenous perspectives across RBC campaigns
Lead the intake, prioritization, and execution of Indigenous-related communications, sponsorships, events, and campaigns, overseeing approvals and maintaining a clear narrative across channels
Serve as a primary lead for Indigenous Banking topics, responding to media inquiries and shaping public-facing narratives with authenticity and accuracy
Collaborate with the National Advisor, Indigenous Market Activation and Regional Market Leads to reflect real-world stories, community insights, and client success in RBC’s communications
Engage with Indigenous Public Relations firms and advisors to validate messaging and ensure cultural appropriateness in all branded materials
Partner with Sustainability & Impact to align messaging with broader environmental, social, and governance (ESG) objectives, particularly when highlighting Indigenous economic inclusion efforts
Develop metrics to measure campaign impact and storytelling effectiveness, applying insights to refine RBC’s Indigenous Banking brand presence and engagement strategy
Support RBC’s presence at major Indigenous business events, ensuring brand visibility, executive participation, and alignment with business development goals
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in communications, public relations, Indigenous studies, or business
Deep understanding of Indigenous communities, the principles of economic reconciliation and the ability to ensure authentic, respectful, and culturally appropriate messaging
Strategic brand and communications leadership experience, with the ability to shape and execute large-scale campaigns across diverse internal and external audiences
Experience working with Indigenous media, including direct experience outside of RBC
Experience providing executive communications support, including navigating reputational risk communications
Proven experience working cross-functionally across enterprise teams and with external Indigenous partners to deliver cohesive, aligned communications
Strong storytelling and content development skills to craft compelling narratives that reflect real-world insights, client successes, and reconciliation impact across multiple platforms
Nice to have:
Master’s degree or equivalent designation
