Global Functions Technology (GFT) is part of RBC’s Technology and Operations division. GFT’s impact is far-reaching as we collaborate with partners from across the company to deliver innovative and transformative IT solutions. Our clients represent Risk, Finance, HR, CAO, Audit, Legal, Compliance, Financial Crime, Capital Markets, Personal and Commercial Banking and Wealth Management. We also lead the development of digital tools and platforms to enhance collaboration.

Compliance is a team within Global Functions Technology that deals with trading and employee surveillance, privacy, and risk governance. This position is a leadership role reporting to the Sr. Director of Compliance Technology and responsible for the data and engineering team. The ideal candidate leads in the technical design and engineering of cross-functional, multi-platform application systems. Applies advanced in-depth and/or broad knowledge, considered a top resource across the organization.

What will you do?

  • Responsible for the data strategy in the trading compliance domain

  • Manages a team of developers and business analysts to ingest data, normalize data, apply controls and make data available to consumer systems

  • Monitors the data model design and optimization; leads database architects to conduct development, testing and validation processes to meet organizational requirements.

  • Oversees database designs, building up of logical/physical/dimensional information models, and planning for data migration and data warehouses.

  • Leads the integration and optimization of structured and/or unstructured data through the use of database tools, technologies and methods.

  • Oversees the normalization process of business segment data from Capital Markets, Wealth Management and Banking as well as reference client and employee data.

What do you need to succeed?

Must have:

  • Strong knowledge of data engineering concepts (ETL, data warehousing, data lakes/fabrics, data modeling)

  • Strong grasp of data architecture and design patterns

  • Experience with big data technologies (Spark, Hadoop, Kafka, etc.)

  • Experience with machine learning pipelines and MLOps

  • Demonstrated ability in written and oral communication skills along with strong presentation skills. Ability to determine the information and communication needs of the stakeholders and project.

  • 10+ years of experience in a technical role with a focus working with enterprise data

Nice-to-have:

  • Strong knowledge of enterprise data governance

  • Familiarity with data visualization tools/BI

  • Capital Markets/Wealth management and/or regulatory experience
