As Senior Technical Project Manager, TDP, you will play a critical role in the experience and success of RBC Technology & Operations technical talent programs, specifically the execution and evolution of the Technical Distinction Program (TDP).

TDP Compass leverages a specialized team of TDP technology experts to solve critical technology challenges and/or opportunities identified by RBC Leaders. The team of experts conducts research and presents strategic technology recommendations to RBC Leaders.

This team strives to deliver exceptional, differentiated experiences to full-time technologists within Technology & Operations at RBC.

You will play a central role in delivering and elevating the TDP Compass and the technical speaking engagement portfolios as part of the program. You will lead in planning, organizing, and delivering complex projects in partnership with the TDP Compass Research Team, driving forward impactful outcomes for RBC.

What will you do?

  • Scoping and Planning: Support Tech Lead to define objectives, scope, and key themes aligned with business priorities and establish methodology and project timeline
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Alignment: Coordinate with executives and business leaders to ensure alignment, preparing materials and updates based on feedback from key stakeholders and following up to share pertinent information
  • Project Management: Plan, manage, and facilitate weekly research team meetings while adhering to the project timeline, capturing progress, defining next steps, and delegating tasks to senior technology team members. You will also identify research gaps and lead the end-to-end half-day workshop (plan agenda, create materials, lead facilitation, capture results)
  • Risk Management: Identify risks, gaps, or delays and proactively address roadblocks to adjust project plan and approach as needed
  • Content Development: Draft the study’s key narratives to align with business and technology trends, facilitate review cycles with senior leaders, prepare for leadership presentations by tailoring content for different audiences. You will also manage and organize all materials and drafts.
  • Publication and Communications Strategy: Plan and execute internal communications strategy, coordinating with T&O Communications and Legal – including publications and speaking engagements
  • TDP Speaking Engagements: Curate internal and external speaking engagements – researching and proposing technical and non-technical topics for TDPers to speak on

What do you need to succeed?

To be successful in this role, we are looking for a candidate with exceptional communication skills, including demonstrated success in creating executive project updates.

You will build strong relationships with senior-level stakeholders in order to push projects forward, and will use a fair amount of Powerpoint, Excel, Project Management tools (LeanKit, JIRA, Confluence) to do so.

Must have:

  • Strong technical acumen in a broad range of technology topics, especially related to current and future technology trends (for example, GenAI, Opensource)
  • Proven experience managing and delivering technical projects, particularly on complex and highly-visible programs
  • Driven, results-focused with meticulous organizational, planning, and time management skills
  • Skilled at building relationships with a view to driving outcomes and business impact, specifically with senior-level stakeholders (Sr. Director and above) with the ability to impact and influence cross-functional partners and key stakeholders
  • Exceptional communication skills, including demonstrated success in creating project reports/executive project updates
  • Strategic, out of the box, and creative thinker who is comfortable with ambiguity and working in a fast-paced environment with a demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and culture change
  • Able to quickly assess problems, prioritize key issues, using data and metrics to provide insight
  • Knowledge and experience of Project Management methodologies and workflows (Agile, Waterfall)
  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of MS Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Project Management tools, such as (but not limited to) LeanKit, Jira, and/or Confluence
