What is the opportunity?
Join our Product Management team as an Actuarial Associate, where you will take a lead role in providing actuarial expertise for product profitability management, reinsurance strategy, and assist with managing all reinsurance treaties for RBC Insurance. You will have an opportunity to gain experience in your actuarial career through various deep dives into the company’s reinsurance portfolio, including but not limited to support potential reinsurance treaty recaptures and analysis whether any reinsurance treaties should be closed for new business.
What will you do?
•Provide actuarial expertise and analysis regarding effectiveness of reinsurance treaties on the overall profitability by product, support colleague with product dashboards for all RBC Insurance products
•Assist with any actuarial tasks that may arise with work related to, but not limited to, Board of Directors and regulatory reporting, various other product related working groups, running valuation models for product and reinsurance analysis, etc.
•Manage the monthly process to ensure accurate and timely analytics from the Reinsurance Dashboard in Tableau, collaborating with Actuarial colleagues to ensure month-end reinsurance valuation data (at reinsurer company & treaty level) is ready for analysis
•Prepare, compile, and summarize various actuarial metrics into impactful PowerPoint presentations, to effectively deliver on the team’s mandate of Reinsurance Strategy, Treaty Management, and Profitability Monitoring
•Support for any other reinsurance related work
What will you need to succeed?
Must have:
•Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a relevant field
•Minimum 2 years of actuarial work experience in Product management, or related fields with strong understanding of life and health insurance products
•Ability to explain complex actuarial concepts and solutions to non-technical stakeholders clearly and effectively
•Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and financial reporting standards, such as IFRS 17, and LICAT
•Familiarity with actuarial valuation, pricing methodologies, and insurance assumptions
•Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., VBA, Python, R), actuarial modeling software (e.g., Moody AXIS), and data analytics/visualization tools (e.g., Tableau)
Nice to have:
•Actively writing actuarial exams
•ASA Designation.
•Familiarity with reinsurance and risk management practices.
•Demonstrated leadership and mentorship experience in managing or supporting a team.
