What is the opportunity?
The Winter Intern, Global Economic Sanctions (GES) is responsible for assisting with the review of clients, assets and transactions to address any potential sanctions risks. Such reviews and subsequent investigations ensure that client activity involving a sanctioned country, individual and/or entity is permissible under applicable regulations. The intern will also assist with research projects involving geopolitical risk, proliferation finance, and anti-terrorist financing.
What will you do?
- Supports the RBC sanctions program which is critical for the mitigation of regulatory / reputational / financial risk at RBC
- Develop an in-depth knowledge of Canadian, US, UK and EU sanctions regulations
- Assist with the day to day management of the global economic sanctions investigations and assessments
- Participate in projects impacting the GES team’s processes and/or technology
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- Financial Industry Compliance experience, ideally including sanctions experience
- Legal experience an asset
- Proficiency in a foreign language knowledge is an asset
- Prior experience as a sanctions investigator/payments analyst at a Canadian Financial Institution
- Regulatory Compliance Professional in Financial Institution
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Prior knowledge of sanctions regulations and guidance
Nice-to-have
- 2+ years’ experience in Sanctions Investigations operations
- Python knowledge
- Proficient knowledge of US, EU, UK and Canadian sanctions regulations and geopolitics
- Knowledge of the global RBC organizational structure

Please note: This posting is for a 4-months Winter 2026 Student placement with a start date of January 2026, and end date of April 2026. In order to be eligible for this 4-months Student position, you must either:
- Be returning back to school after the work term end-date of April 2026 ; or
- If you are not returning back to school (i.e. are graduating in April 2026), you must require the full 4-months work term as a mandatory component to in order to graduate successfully.
