Job Description

What is the Opportunity?

The Director, Communications will lead the internal and external communications strategies for the Personal Banking (PB) Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Customer Engagement & Data (CE&D) businesses within the Personal Bank. This role requires a proactive senior communicator who is a strategic thinker and storyteller, with a passion for delivering internal and external communications strategies that get results. The successful candidate will have a knack for leveraging their knowledge of the business to connect the dots, and an ability to see the bigger picture while building relationships with multiple stakeholders.

What will you do?

  • Provide ongoing communications counsel and support to the EVP, Chief Operating Officer, PB and EVP, Customer Engagement & Data and their respective businesses.

  • Lead the development and execution of external communications strategies for the businesses under the COO, including enterprise payments and solutions acceleration and innovation, and CE&D, ensuring a strong narrative and effective management of reputational risks.

  • Lead the development of internal communication strategies to raise awareness of the COO and CE&D teams and leaders, and their work across PB and the enterprise.

  • Work with the business to develop impactful and engaging employee events and town halls for both the COO and CE&D.

  • Contribute to the success of RBC Brand, Marketing, Communications and Citizenship’s overarching goals, including instilling a strong ONE RBC culture.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Proven track record as a respected strategic advisor to senior executives with success developing and executing integrated communication strategies that drive business outcomes.

  • Undergraduate degree/post-graduate certificate or equivalent in communications, public relations, journalism or related field.

  • 10+ years of strategic communications, PR or public affairs experience.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, negotiate and build consensus while navigating a large matrixed organization.

  • Extensive internal communications, media relations, social media, and issues management experience.
