Please note: This posting is for a 4-month Winter 2026 placement with a start date of January 2026 and end-date of April 2026.

In order to be eligible for this 4-month Student position, you must either:

  • Be returning back to school after the work term end-date of April 2026; or
  • If you are not returning back to school (i.e. are graduating in April/August 2026), but you require the work term as a mandatory component to in order to graduate successfully.

As an intern student on our team you will be immersed in an environment that fosters creativity and a learning mindset.

Our visual designers help to communicate our design intent in a way that delights yet informs our users to create intuitive interfaces. As a member of our team, you can instinctively weave iconography, typography, colour, space, and texture together to simplify and improve how our customers navigate our products and services. You’ll use your skills to create designs that inspire, engage, and excite.

What will you do?

  • Employ user-centered design principles and techniques to optimize the client experience for new and existing RBC products and features
  • Create complex low-fidelity sketches, wireframes, and prototypes to explore, communicate, and validate ideas.
  • Create complex prototypes to provide delivery specifications for development
  • Evaluate visual designs for accessibility, inclusivity and provide expert advice and guidance to cross-functional teams
  • Participate in usability testing and research activities
  • Collaborate with your core design team, project managers, developers, and business stakeholders

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Enrollment in a post-secondary institution (university or college) in a degree program related to design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), or a related field or equivalent practical experience
  • Exposure to designing usable interfaces across multiple channels and platforms
  • Exposure to applied research settings including experience integrating user research into product designs and design practices
  • Solid knowledge of design tools (Adobe Photoshop and/or Sketch, Illustrator, and presentation software) and principles (typography, grid systems, visual hierarchy, colour, white space, etc.)
  • Portfolio that includes case studies where you walk through the problem you were solving and the process you used to come to a solution
