Job Description

What is the opportunity?

The Digital Platform & Engineering Technical Product Owner will lead the strategic direction and execution of Atlas, RBC’s Developer Portal serving as the central hub for RBC's development community. This role combines core product ownership responsibilities with developer community evangelism and platform consolidation strategy. You will manage the agile product team, drive adoption across our development ecosystem, own the expansion of platform engineering best practices and tooling, and articulate the platform's value to both technical teams and executive leadership through compelling demos and storytelling. As the Technical Product Owner for the broader platform, you will champion the consolidation strategy that positions Atlas as the unified gateway for all developer tools, services, and resources.

What will you do?

  • Product Vision & Roadmap Management: Define and communicate the product strategy, roadmap, and priorities for Atlas and the broader platform ecosystem; partner with stakeholders to align on business objectives and developer needs.
  • Agile Team Leadership: Lead the product team through sprint planning, backlog prioritization, and delivery cadence; manage dependencies and ensure timely execution of initiatives.
  • Backlog & Requirements Management: Translate business and developer community feedback into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and prioritized backlog items; balance core platform features with consolidation initiatives.
  • Platform Consolidation Strategy: Own the broader consolidation roadmap that positions Atlas as the unified portal for developer tools and services; identify fragmented tooling and services across RBC, develop integration strategies, and drive migration of existing platforms into the Atlas ecosystem.
  • Platform Engineering Best Practices: Establish and evolve standards for platform engineering excellence (e.g., API design, DevOps tooling, security, observability); ensure Atlas and integrated services adhere to these best practices and serve as templates for the broader organization.
  • Executive Reporting & Stakeholder Management: Build and present regular updates on product progress, adoption metrics, consolidation milestones, and roadmap alignment to leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Developer Community Evangelism: Design and deliver compelling product demonstrations and narrative content tailored to developer and executive audiences; organize community events, workshops, and webinars to drive adoption of Atlas and consolidated services.
  • Adoption & Engagement Strategy: Establish metrics for platform adoption and engagement; gather developer feedback and incorporate insights into product strategy to drive continuous improvement and consolidation priorities.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with engineering, design, platform teams, business stakeholders, and tool owners to ensure seamless feature delivery, platform reliability, and successful integration of development best practices and tooling into Atlas.

What do you need to succeed?

Must have:

  • 8+ years of product management experience, preferably with developer platforms, technical products, internal tools, or platform engineering initiatives.
  • Proven ability to lead agile teams, manage complex product backlogs, and deliver on roadmaps.
  • Exceptional presentation and storytelling skills; ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences (developers, executives, non-technical stakeholders).
  • Strong technical acumen and fluency communicating with engineering teams and developers.
  • Demonstrated experience building and engaging technical communities.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills in matrixed organizations with competing priorities.
  • Process improvement expertise: Proven ability to design and optimize workflows, consolidation models, and organizational processes.
  • Growth mindset and commitment to staying current with developer trends, platform engineering practices, and technologies.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with internal developer platforms, APIs, developer tooling, or platform consolidation initiatives.
  • Familiarity with financial services or banking industry.
  • Agile/Scrum certification or hands-on experience.
  • Experience with product analytics and data-driven decision making.
  • Track record of driving consensus, influence, and change management across organizational boundaries.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices, cloud services, API gateways, or infrastructure tooling.
